Not every building needs to be a masterpiece. I just appreciate the population it will bring to the area. Plenty of opportunities for signature towers as lots become more scarce.

Having said that I am still thrilled this project is underway.

The eventual design is interesting enough and will be a very positive addition to the Downtown Dallas skyline. Park District's two towers will form a cool "gateway" effect with them rising immediately north of Museum Tower across Woodall Rodgers.

And there is another near 400 foot tall tower, Lincoln Properties' "Symphony Tower", that just started rising next to Museum Tower that will reinforce that gateway effect.

There are so many towers under construction in Downtown Dallas right now where their positive effects on the central core's skyline are for the most part not yet being felt, with yet several more towers nearing groundbreaking:

I prefer the current design of the PWC development over the previous. The previous was eye popping and flashy no doubt. But after all the museum tower debacle, I thought that one was just a joke. The design they are moving forward with is much more thought out and will contribute nicely to the park which IMO is more important than a flashy design.

Construction begins on new hotel near Frisco's $5 Billion Mile along the Dallas North Tollway

Construction has begun on a new hotel near Frisco's much-touted $5 Billion Mile, which is a mile stretch of roadway along the Dallas North Tollway from Warren Parkway to Lebanon Road with $5.4 billion of real estate investment plans.

The nine-story, 184-room Drury Inn & Suites hotel will sit at the southeast corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Gaylord Parkway in Frisco, which is just outside the $5 Billion Mile. The hotel is slated to open in 2017.

Drury Hotels CEO Chuck Drury said Frisco was a highly requested location for the St. Louis-based hotelier to open a new Drury Inn & Suites.

Robert Shaw's Columbus Realty teams up with McKinney to develop former courthouse site

The development agreement will bring 320 apartments, a parking garage, 45,000 square feet of office space and 20,000 square feet of retail space to the 9-acre site at the southwest corner of Davis Street and McDonald Street (State Highway 5).

This spring, the development firm will hold a public presentation of design concepts. Construction is expected to start no later than January 2017.

Tom Thumb groundbreaking in Uptown is Thursday, opens in 2017

The groundbreaking for The Union office/apartment/retail/restaurant project by Phoenix-based Red Development will be happening in the next few weeks. That means there’s going to be a Tom Thumb grocery store across from Victory Park in Uptown Dallas.

Here are The Union’s details:
- 800,000 square feet in two towers, including a 414,000-square-foot office building with 14 floors and 300-unit high-rise apartment building on 22 floors.
- Regional accounting firm Weaver, Vinson & Elkins law firm and high-rise developer StreetLights Residential are announced tenants.
- 87,500 square feet of retail including restaurants and a 60,000-square-foot Tom Thumb.
- 10 levels of above and below street parking
- A large public plaza connects all of it.

Trammell Crow eyes apartment tower for Plano’s booming Legacy development

(The luxury apartment community would be constructed next door to Crow’s Legacy Tower in Plano.)

Crow has filed plans to build a high-rise apartment project next door to its recently completed office tower on the Dallas North Tollway.

The 27-story building would contain 350 apartments on top of a 6-story garage, according to plans filed with Plano’s planning department.

There’s also a rooftop terrace for the residents and a dog park out back.

Architects Good Fulton & Farrell designed the high-rise.

Developer Billingsley Co. ready to start another Cypress Waters project

The developer has filed permits with the City of Dallas to construct the 225,000-square-foot, 4-story office project on Cypress Waters Boulevard north of LBJ.

The office block would sit between existing office developments and one of the apartment communities at Cypress Waters.

Designed by Good Fulton & Farrell Architects, the building could accommodate a large single tenant or multiple businesses.

The building permit was for $18.5 million.

Love Field area boom will bring first new office project there in decades

Developers are set to begin construction on the first office building near Love Field in almost three decades.

KDC — the same developer that did the huge State Farm Insurance campus in Richardson — plans to build the office project as part of the $200 million mixed-use West Love development under construction on Mockingbird Lane.

KDC’s office building at 2345 W. Mockingbird Lane will have about 150,000 to 200,000 square feet of space. There will also be 65,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space adjoining the office and hotel buildings.
