The W Hotel looks nothing like anything else in Uptown.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Not every building needs to be a masterpiece. I just appreciate the population it will bring to the area. Plenty of opportunities for signature towers as lots become more scarce.

I think your statement is accurate on two points: 1) the original design for this project was far superior to what is actually being built and 2) the prime location fronting Klyde Warren Park is deserving of exceptional design. There are a limited number of building sites with this kind of panache associated with it.

I share your opinion that the original design was clearly superior with the eventual design paling in comparison. It's not that the eventual design is so bad, it is just that in comparison to the exuberant original it seems more bland.

Having said that I am still thrilled this project is underway.

The eventual design is interesting enough and will be a very positive addition to the Downtown Dallas skyline. Park District's two towers will form a cool "gateway" effect with them rising immediately north of Museum Tower across Woodall Rodgers.

And there is another near 400 foot tall tower, Lincoln Properties' "Symphony Tower", that just started rising next to Museum Tower that will reinforce that gateway effect.

There are so many towers under construction in Downtown Dallas right now where their positive effects on the central core's skyline are for the most part not yet being felt, with yet several more towers nearing groundbreaking:

Currently under construction, 23 towers:

34 story Residences at Park District residential tower, Trammell Crow
33 story Bleu Ciel residential tower
30 story Katy Station residential tower
25 story 1900 Pearl ("Symphony" Arts District office tower), Lincoln Property
25 story Skyhouse Victory Place residential tower
24 story Cinepolis residential tower
23 story "M" Line Streetlights residential tower
23 story The Jordan residential tower
23 story Ascent 1 residential tower (2 tower complex on shared podium)
21 story Ascent 2 residential tower (2 tower complex on shared podium)
22 story The McKenzie residential tower
22 story Frost Bank office tower
21 story McKinney & Olive mixed use tower
21 story One Uptown residential tower
20 story Park District office tower, Trammell Crow
18 story The Brady residential tower
18 story Hall Arts office tower
17 story tower, The Case Building, Westdale Deep Ellum residential towers
14 story 1900 Cedar Springs residential tower
12 story 1920 McKinney office tower
10 story Baylor Hospital hotel
8 story Gables/Whole Foods residential tower
7 story One Harwood, "Rolex" office tower, Harwood International

Groundbreakings imminent, 9 towers:

29 story The Union Dallas residential tower, shared parking podium, 1Q16
Twin ~26 story towers, "2000 Ross", mixed use towers (hotel and residential, next to Trammell Crow Center), 1Q16
25 story The Union Dallas office tower, 16 stories on top of shared parking podium, 1Q16
~25 story Perot office tower, Cedar Springs at Dickson, 3Q16
23 story Hines Victory office tower
20 story Ltd Edition 2505, residential tower, 1Q16
18 story Oliver & Central residential tower, 1Q16
17 story Virgin Hotel, 2Q15

Good times for Dallas' central core!

To be clear, the initial rendering was nothing more than a placeholder.

I prefer the current design of the PWC development over the previous. The previous was eye popping and flashy no doubt. But after all the museum tower debacle, I thought that one was just a joke. The design they are moving forward with is much more thought out and will contribute nicely to the park which IMO is more important than a flashy design.

Candace Carlisle
February 16, 2016

Quote:
Construction has begun on a new hotel near Frisco's much-touted $5 Billion Mile, which is a mile stretch of roadway along the Dallas North Tollway from Warren Parkway to Lebanon Road with $5.4 billion of real estate investment plans.

The nine-story, 184-room Drury Inn & Suites hotel will sit at the southeast corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Gaylord Parkway in Frisco, which is just outside the $5 Billion Mile. The hotel is slated to open in 2017.
Quote:
Drury Hotels CEO Chuck Drury said Frisco was a highly requested location for the St. Louis-based hotelier to open a new Drury Inn & Suites.

Love Field area boom will bring first new office project there in decades

Quote:
Developers are set to begin construction on the first office building near Love Field in almost three decades.

KDC — the same developer that did the huge State Farm Insurance campus in Richardson — plans to build the office project as part of the $200 million mixed-use West Love development under construction on Mockingbird Lane.
Quote:
KDC’s office building at 2345 W. Mockingbird Lane will have about 150,000 to 200,000 square feet of space. There will also be 65,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space adjoining the office and hotel buildings.
