Most of Kolkata is a maze of lanes, bylanes and narrow alleys like the above. If the city (and most of its residents) had money, they could have painted the houses, cleaned up the lanes and it could have become a charming tourist attraction. But maybe two decades from now.

Interesting. Are there very many Christians there? It's good to see so many smaller cars too. I wish more folks in the US would think about getting smaller vehicles.

Great thread Suncity! I just discovered it as well. I visited the city 3 years ago and it seems to have changed alot since then.
I remember the post office (colonial architecture) in the downtown area was good-looking. Do you have any pics of it?
Looking forward for future updates!

The city has not really changed that much in the past three years. It is the same good old Cal with its mix of poverty and wealth.

Here are some photos of colonial buildings taken by me..

It is the St Andrews Church, completed in 1818 and built on the site of the first Court House (after which the street is named as Old Court House Street). The picture is slightly old. The church does get a regular coat of paint unlike other buildings, but the white colour is difficult to maintain in Kolkata's pollution and humid weather.

Thanks for pictures of a rarely-showcased city on these threads.
