On the bright side... at least the Portland Building looks better in comparison.

haha, someone should inform Micheal Graves that he no longer holds the record for "crappiest building in Portland."

No, don't tell him. He might be competitive.

re: the chicago projects: I actually think they look good from that distance.

re: The Lovejoy: besides the aluminum siding, I think it doesn't look too bad.

re: the Portland Building: I love this building. Even if you hate it, you HAVE to acknowledge its importance in architectural history. ACKNOWLEDGE IT!!!!

Architectural history.... yes. I just don't want that to be a model for architectural future. And the Chicago projects are a great example of LeCorbusier's "Tower in the Park" concept. Also an important part of architectural history. Also a bad idea. (IMO, of course)

At least the Asa addresses the street well.

I don't know if there is a better place for this, but here goes:

I'm looking for an apartment right now, and I was absolutely blown away by the Asa. Judging by their ads on Craigslist and the bland brick facade I wasn't expecting much from the building, but I took a tour of it last weekend and I was very impressed. The finishes in the apartments are very nice, the layout in the 1BRs is very roomy compared to other relatively new buildings, the gym is great, and the rooftop lounge/deck is wonderful.
