Update 3-29-08. I was tired of not seeing much progress from my usual vantage point, so I walked over and zoomed down into the hole.

SW 1st Avenue closed, Main to Madison, Saturday April 12
There will be a complete street closure of SW 1st Avenue between Main and Madison (at the foot of the Hawthorne Bridge ramps) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, for setting the base of the tower crane for the 1st and Main tower project. The contractor anticipates more closures and detours for the following weekend, when the full tower crane is assembled.

Tower crane assembly to reroute Hawthorne bridge traffic April 19-20
Hoffman Construction will be installing the tower crane for the First and Main tower over the weekend of April 19 - 20, resulting in a major temporary traffic change at the Hawthorne Bridge ramp to Main Street. Beginning Friday evening, April 18, at 6:30 pm, westbound traffic on the bridge will be detoured to temporary two-way travel on SW Madison Street up to SW 2nd, where traffic will return to Main Street. The detour will be in place until Sunday evening, April 20. SW 1st Avenue will be closed at Salmon for the duration of the tower crane assembly.

I saw the crane sections on trucks Tuesday in Vancouver, this was over by Fruit Valley Road.

Is there a crane company there that I've just never seen before??!

^from the Justice Center to the block that will hold the new courthouse. This was instead of condemning the block First and Main is going up on.

I'm not sure if it has to go up at the same time as the building, or if it will be tunneled under the street and take over some parking garage space? In any case, there was not an additional trench dug deeper for a tunnel. As it rises, I'll see if they have anything resembling a corridor built in the parking garage.

Update 5-3-08:

Very sorry that this one is a bit out of focus. I was holding the camera over the fence and it looked ok on the lcd. Below my usual standards, but it's something to look at anyway.

I found the garage right next to the construction site, so I am going to baseline this location for myself and track the progress!
