Apple moves closer to opening Halifax store

March 30, 2012 - 7:20pm BY REMO ZACCAGNA BUSINESS REPORTER

It appears that Apple is one step closer to officially announcing a Halifax location.

On Thursday, the U.S. technology giant posted several job openings for Halifax on its corporate website, including those for a manager, inventory specialist and business manager.

Now that Apple and Victoria's Secret are confirmed, I wonder what other big retailers are in the near future. I know Forever 21 has been looking for a large enough space for a while. I assumed they would open in the old Toys R Us space at Mic Mac but Toys R Us doesn't seem to be closing...

The Toys R Us looked very much alive when I was at the mall tonight. You're right. It doesn't appear that it is closing any time soon.

I grabbed a photo today of the work currently underway to install the escalator displaced by the Apple Store. It is across from the Eastlink store on the lower level, travel agent and Rocky Mountain Chocolate on the upper level. That is a small rock breaker on the mini excavator, interestingly with Quebec plates.

Its kind of upsetting Apple had to set up in the spot they did. Now instead of a bright open atrium to welcome shoppers, we'll have a long dark hallway. Usually escalators are in a large open area, now we have to cram them in the middle of a hallway. I'm happy we're getting an Apple store, I just wish there was another spot in the mall for them.

Victoria's Secret was officially announced on the Halifax Shopping Centre Facebook page today. Opening in August, Halifax will join Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Montreal as the only Canadian cities with a VS store. Very impressive

I suspect the Apple Store will be announced soon as well. They are now hiring for many positions on their website.

Fossil will be opening sometime in May in HSC. Opening date TBA soon.
