I agree it really bothers me. This project is awesome but that antenna really annoys me!

Technically, its the worlds highest observation deck- indoor or outdoor. Heck, there's enough room of there for a troop of boy scouts to set up camp.

I disagree with everyone who dislikes the antenna. This tower has always been about structure, about a heavy, safe mass both visually and structurally. The antenna reinforces both.

If towers show off power this one also shows ingenuity. The challenges of erecting a 2000 ft structure in the middle of an active seismic zone is almost as amazing as the culture that has thrived there for hundreds of years. Anything simple and skinny would undermine Japan's safety standard and structural innovations.

I still think this building looks too fat. It would be better if it was more slender so it would look taller.

Sky Tree booked for 1st month

The Tokyo Sky Tree, set to open on May 22, has been completely booked by groups seeking to visit the tower during the first month of its opening, while individual tickets are yet to be made available.

Requests can be made to visit the tower up to six months in advance, but only 2,654 of the 27,122 groups that had requested to tour the Sky Tree during the first month of its opening have been able to secure tickets.

Up to 4,000 people can visit the tower each day in groups of 25 people or more.

Sky tree ticket reservations are mandatory only for the first 1-1/2 months after its opening. But it appears that daily tickets for the next six months are completely booked out as they become available.

Operator Tobu Tower Sky tree Co. has said demand is so high that all group slots from May 22 to June 27 had been filled.

I don't quite think you can fake height.

I don't know if you folks saw this. It's been a long time since I posted. Other than urbanism/skyscrapers, one of my interests is perfume. And they are planning to release a super-limited-edition commemorative Sky Tree perfume. I would totally be buying this through my agents in Japan (haha) if it wasn't around $700...

It's nice how you captured the constellation Orion rising in the same frame as the Tokyo Sky Tree.

I love Japanese architecture but I'm thoroughly unimpressed with this tower (and most broadcasting tower design in general).

Tokyo is like a business district within a city, with in a city, with in a city, with in a city. Definitely the MOST complex city in the world, and one I've laid my eyes on. But it would be nice to see more towers/structures like TST, to give Tokyo a sense of embellishment, not that it already isn't.

not bad but as far as this type of tower goes, the cn tower is still no 1 imo. i really think they could have built something much more modern looking and also in function. the cn tower is decades older yet looks much much more modern and up to date than this one. the tower being what it is should have incorporated something new to the tower segment. like how about a world class fantasy hotel in the sky? see, it took me about 10 seconds to come up with that. i cant understand why they would spend this kind of money on a tower that does nothing to advance the idea of a observation tower and bring those type of buildings into the new century.
