If anyone plans on heading up this tower, it's gonna cost you almost $40.

Tokyo Sky Tree’s Outrageously Expensive Observation Deck Entry Fee: 3000 Yen
June 8, 2011

[...]

One adult ticket to the top observation deck will cost 3,000 yen (about $37).

Here’s how it compares to other observation decks:

Burj Khalifa – about 2,200 yen (if purchased in advance for a specific date and time – otherwise its about 8,800 yen)
Guangzhou TV Tower – about 1,800 yen
Eiffel Tower – about 1,500 yen
Tokyo Tower – 1,420 yen
That's not really surprising to me considering that a lot of things in Tokyo are expensive (so I've heard). Here's a video with the information, but it's probably only useful if you actually know Japanese or just want to check out what it looks like from the top.

Video Link

1:42 for a quick time-lapse of its construction. 2:12 for the base of the antenna, 3:00 for the BASE jumper's paradise. It cuts away to compare it to the radio tower in North Dakota, then more shots from the top at 4:28. Try not to get vertigo at 5:20. 7:20 is where the guy talks about the prices.

$40? Seriously? Forget it.

I could get to the top of ESB (102nd floor) in New York for $35.

I think Japanese architecture is fairly unique for each building while not being dramatic or over the top. I like it.

Kenski1970

The opposite would be Dubai where every tower screams at you with their billion dollar designs. But I like Dubai too, so it's all preference really.

Yoshikazu Takada

The overhead power lines can get bad, but I don't think that means they don't care about aesthetics. I can't actually say anything in defense about this picture though. Holy crap.

Thanks for posting those photos, animatedmartian. The first pic is my favorite, Tokyo density always impresses me.

That last pic is also sweet. The sprawling, consistent density (of generally decent modern architecture) makes Tokyo truly one of the world's greatest metropolis. A visual treat for any urban enthusiast.

Are we topped out? I'm visiting Tokyo In October, and though I won't be able to head up to the deck yet, it'll be nice to see this tower in person!

Yep, I believe all they are doing now is the inside stuff and finishing the base complex. It's supposed to be finished by December.

Might as well do a photo update.
