^New West should really stop bitching. How much traffic originating from elsewhere ends up in Vancouver, or even Burnaby? Get over it. It's called being part of a metropolitan region.

Here's a thought,

For all those people that live in new west, but wish it is no where near metro Vancouver, we have a town in the interior called Nelson, it has lots of old stone and brick buildings, draft dodgers, hippie burnouts, a front street, a dangerous old orange iron trestle bridge, and hell, it even has a streetcar. Those people would love it.

It is EXACTLY these people that makes our transportation system (both roads and public transit) so third-world. If they don't have more productive and constructive to say and contribute, then they should move to Nelson.

it great i take it everyday to work ,its taken off 10 mins from my commute on average, today i left mcbride and 6th went along 6th to 22nd sky train then over the bridge in 15mins. its a huge improvement and considering the bridge was always going to be the limiting factor (only 4 lanes both ways) there wasn't going to be much more they could do.

Truck traffic has exploded along Stewardson Way/Front Street/Brunette Ave. over the past decade in New West. Much of that thru traffic attempts to connect from Hwy 91/91A to Hwy 1 along New West's existing antiquated street system and therein lies the problem.

Solution:

When the new 6-lane Pattulo Bridge is eventually constructed, the interchange at its southern end with the SFPR/Hwy 17 expressway should be complemeted by an expressway upgrade of McBride Blvd on the northern approaches with the construction thereafter of the Stormont-McBride expressway connector to Hwy 1 at Gaglardi Way.

Certainly truckers/ thru car traffic would prefer such a quicker route over the time-consuming endless lights, congestion and narrow lanes of New West.

New West residents win and commercial/regional vehicular thru traffic also wins.

Bingo, but then they will complain about the expressways having pollution, noise, etc... I find it so strange how our regional road network has this huge gap in New West, forcing everyone to crawl along roads designed 100 years ago. The best example of how New West does not seem to realize they are in the middle of the metro area, therefor in the middle of our "road network," whether they like it or not, is how United Blvd in Coquitlam goes from a 4 lane road to a one lane wooden bride once it enters New west.

how was Stormont/Gaglardi from Hwy#1 supposed to link up with McBride ? was Cariboo supposed to connect with it ? Whats the history behind the 30 year old (?) uncompleted interchange.

Background info - 10 years old - but still interesting:
