Durst’s Queens Plaza Park Passes Halfway Mark As Façade Work Beings, In Long Island City

Quote:
Queens Plaza Park’s glass façade is rapidly ascending at 27-29 Queens Plaza North in Long Island City. Construction of the curved reinforced concrete superstructure is nearing the halfway mark of the residential skyscraper, which will eventually stand 755 feet tall, making it the second-tallest building in Queens and the outer boroughs. The 67-story project, also addressed as 29-37 41st Avenue, is designed by Handel Architects and being developed by The Durst Organization. Selldorf Architects is in charge of interior design.

Photos show the reflective glass façade ascending the curved structure, the distinctive shape of which is becoming increasingly pronounced.

The 978,000-square-foot development will contain a total of 958 residential units, roughly 287 of which are dedicated to affordable housing. Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a 20,000-square-foot fitness center, a private residential library, co-working space, a children’s playroom, and a demonstration kitchen.

Queens Plaza Park may be surpassed in height by Skyline Tower by only 23 feet, but both glass skyscrapers will dominate the inner Long Island City skyline, providing views of Midtown, Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.

Completion of Queens Plaza Park will most likely occur in the second half of 2020 or early 2021 at the latest.

That's a sweet shot of LIC. Now that the tower is clearing the hotel/condo building just to the west and ALTA LIC, this thing is going to be very noticeable.

What's up with the lot they are using to stage for the tower? Is that an MTA lot or does the developer have plans for it? It could easily fit another 2 towers.

Queens Plaza Park, Aka Sven, Passes The Halfway Mark In Long Island City

Quote:
Queens Plaza Park, aka Sven, is the 25th building on our annual countdown of the tallest projects underway in New York. Construction has passed the halfway point on the 755-foot-tall residential skyscraper, which is located at 27-29 Queens Plaza North in Long Island City. Meanwhile, the curved reflective glass curtain wall is rapidly ascending the 67-story reinforced concrete superstructure. Handel Architects is the designer and The Durst Organization is the developer of the project, which is also addressed as 29-37 41st Avenue. Selldorf Architects is the interior designer.

Recent photos taken from Roosevelt Island show the growing presence of the superstructure on the northern end of the Long Island City skyline. The Roosevelt Island tram also provides clear vistas of the rising tower, as it is almost perfectly aligned with the suspended tram cables. The central mechanical floors can be distinguished by the perimeter concrete walls a few floors below the safety cocoon netting.

The 978,000-square-foot development will contain 958 residential units, about 287 of which will be dedicated to affordable housing. Amenities for Sven include an outdoor swimming pool, a 20,000-square-foot fitness center, a private residential library, co-working space, a children’s playroom, and a demonstration kitchen.

Sven will be the second-tallest skyscraper in the neighborhood after Skyline Tower and its 778-foot roof parapet. The projects anchor opposite sides of the Long Island City skyline and have already added to the extended cluster of new development, with more likely to emerge in the coming years.

Looking good. Stupid name though. Also that terrible hotel on the left built a few years ago is just trash. Would love to see it replaced as LIC land vaulues continue to climb.

Is that a concave glass facade? Did we not learn from the Walkie Scorchie and Vdara Death Ray?

Joking aside, this might not be a concern depending on the positioning of the sun relative to the building's shiny shiny glass.

I'm sure that's been modelled.
