Interesting article that discusses the struggle to fill in the vacant lots in downtown Phoenix with substantial projects.

Phoenix is a curious case. It's growing furiously. But arguably its downtown is going sideways.

Actually for the first time I would argue downtown is actually getting a solid amount of growth.

We have about 10, 20+ story projects either under construction or in planning with just as many midrise not including about 10 mid/high-rise completions in the proceeding couple of years. Not nearly all of them have been updated here.

There is also some ongoing potential for some new office buildings and RFP's on some city owned lots in the core that would require high density constructions. Which are all in various primordial stages and hopefully come to fruition.

In the next 3 years the skyline will be completely different.

Anyway glad to see some life on here!

The thing with the city is that it was built all post car in leapfrogging developments, you can drive all around and cant go more than a few blocks without coming across an infill project or apartment complex going up of various sizes and qualities, the city has pretty much gotten as wide as its going to get and is now, finally, beginning to get dense developments.

New midrize downtown construction

The Filmore: 2 block project, 600 apts/condos retail, street and connectivity improvements. Starting constructions "soon" got caught up in city council shenanigans for a year.

http://downtownphoenixjournal.com/20...-fillmore-rfp/

Aspirant, 14 floors, no rendering yet but this company is building the 20 story "Stewart" about 2 blocks away so its a good bet this will get built, across the street from the above project.

BLOCK 23 (Cityscape Part Duex) : Just getting above ground now

https://app.oxblue.com/open/WhitingTurner/Block23

Fun little video ^

the stadiums are all in never-ending political wrangling that now involves basically every sports team, (diamondbacks, Coyotes, Suns and ASU) to varying degrees.

the Cardinals and out Soccer Expansion team are laughing from the sidelines. So no news on that ongoing disaster worth talking about. I suppose it means we are finally a "real city" as projects are increasingly bogged down in these kinds of negotiations.
