I think it's a good idea to keep quiet about the Hard Rock project. While I am perfectly fine with it going there, that was quite a bait-and-switch they did to get the height approvals. Originally was supposed to be all residential with a large retail component and even that took years to get approved. No way a hotel with presumably no retail apart from the hard rock would have gotten approved at this scale on that block.

FYI tower crane is going up at sight of Higgins Hotel. This makes 5 downtown if my math serves me right, 6 if Hard Rock puts up second one.

The New Orleans City Council on Thursday unanimously approved a developer's plan to renovate and add three stories to a vacant historic hotel in the 100 block of Royal Street.

Renovation plans for the former Royal Cosmopolitan hotel at 121 Royal have been opposed for years by various French Quarter groups and preservationists, who argue that the taller building, at 120 feet, wouldn't fit with the rest of the neighborhood.

Those behind the project have insisted that a larger building is necessary to make the historic rehabilitation feasible and that their plans would help revitalize one of the area's more rundown blocks.

I really like what this mural on the Paramount adds visually to the urban landscape:

Nice, beautiful, clean renderings of the new airport. However, I do MUCH prefer the early ones where they went crazy with the wood tone strips. No doubt a victim of value engineering it looks like this has been reduced to just the immediate gate areas. However, I am very glad that they are not proceeding with the horrid floral floor seen in some of the early renderings.

Here are old renderings for reference (and side note, Happy Fat Tuesday everybody!):

i think those are hard to compare since this is a digital 3d rendering and also any retail etc is not shown just strictly the actual airport terminal itself .. the colors are im sure more dramatic in real life.. but it at least gives a good idea of how some of the spaces will feel

Looks like the person who told me about NOBU wasnt full of it!

NOBU:

The $350 million plan also pitches a new outdoor dining concept on the Harrah’s site overlooking Poydras Street.

Harrah’s is also seeking approval for improvements to Fulton Street, which runs next to its existing hotel. Planned upgrades include a clear roof structure to be built over the street, allowing for year-round use.

The Masquerade, the main nightclub in Harrah’s, will be getting upgrades. A rendering provided to NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune shows plans for new lighting and screens.

Harrah’s improvement plan calls for extensive interior upgrades, including new light and sound fixtures.

The new 24-story Harrah’s hotel would include a rooftop pool and bar, a gym and spa, and 20,000 square feet of meeting space.

Harrah’s is also planning upgrades to its food services at the casino. The $350 million plan includes a “Taste of New Orleans”-themed food hall, which would feature stalls from prominent local eateries.

Harrah’s also wants to build a new, “boutique nightclub” at its New Orleans casino, one among an array of non-gaming improvements and expansions the company is pitching.

also there are some other things we know of not included rendering wise like the new Filmore theatre but that will technically have its own entrance and be seperate from the casino and we know Gordon Ramsay and Wahlbergers are doing restaurants in NOLA and considering their existing relationships with Caesars/Harrahs its likely they will be part of this as well

think its a great idea!
