There is a five floor office building going up on Joe howe, the cranes been there since construction started but they havent really been working on that one.

I do hope they get rid of that wall on the dutch village side though, that really needs to go.

This project did inspire HRM to approve a change to the MPS for area bounded by Dutch Village Road (including Percy and Deal Streets) all the way to Desmond, Joe Howe and Bayers Road to allow for mixed use buildings if the lots were consolidated. That was part of the waiting period for the DA to be persued - because the MPS amendments weren't just for this site.

So, if anyone has any spare cash and can purchase the DQ, Giant Tiger and Former TH site - they too could put up a building of that size and scope. The only thing it didn't do was apply those policies to the other side of the street where the Scotia Bank is located, which I think is fair.

So if this building does start something, it will be interesting to see what happens. This could become a 'TOD' site (in proximity to Bayers Road Transit terminal) or just a new 'village centre'.

A stadium somewhere in this part of town would make sense. The old roundhouse lands would be ideal.

Is most of the exterior cladding complete on this one?

We haven't seen a picture of this one for a couple of months. I am curious to know how it turned out.

Only about half way up the building actually. I'll try to take a picture next time i'm up there.

Just noticed today that the taller crane is gone now, and the second building on the lot is preparing to pour the second storey.

I think it's looking really, really good. It's so nice to have something that modern rising in that part of the city.

You make a good point. This is relatively modern for this area of the city, what is essentially the border of the peninsula and the mainland.

The next improvement I'd like to see is with that nearby strip mall being redeveloped all the way to the sidewalk (with larger sidewalks) to increase the area's capacity to actively become urbanised at the street level. Foot traffic is still somewhat slow, even compared to what Quinpool has established.

That large SuperStore is close to this location. At some point, some of these fragmented developments could be tied together quite nicely, in terms of pedestrian traffic.

I love this building and what it has done to the area. Maybe someday they will re-develop that Shopper's Drug Mart to be more pedestrian friendly (I really hate that Shopper's just builds suburban style stores in urban settings).

I really like the way this project has turned out. It looks like a fairly basic design but still looks very contemporary.
