Not sure about the base but the top half at least has quite the sleek design, the overhanging sections are well articulated.

Unless Redesigned, Prefer the Structure Not to be Built on Michigan Ave

This building's non graceful, convoluted appearance is so eclectic, clumsy and brutally void of continuity relative to style and form, as though a desperate attempt to be different, the designer reaching the limits of their creative scope, not the least looking as though an imposition upon the building to the south, that my first impression upon seeing various renderings of the structure is that some marginal, beginner architect in China conceived of this grotesque edifice, only to rediscover the lost work some 25+ years later.

Those grasping to and promoting the exceedingly limited, architectural merits of this structure, which if a musical score would not be melodic, reeking of being conflicted, as though needing to kiss up to somebody or some firm to score points, such that their idea is well received.

I got an email last week, that I missed, stating that 'private sales for VIP buyers' is coming in late September.

Can't help but think that the transition between the base and the tower is a big fail on this thing.... 45 East 22nd Street in NY has pretty much the exact same base but actually made it look like it belongs to the tower.

It would've looked less clunky if the cantilever was just a straight up cantilever like NY's Nordstrom Tower rather than this half-assed slanted compromise.

More information + renderings on 1000 S Michigan:

First look inside planned Helmut Jahn condo tower [Crain's]

In the amenities arms race, this building looks to be stockpiling heavy-duty munitions.

So the units are going for between $600 - $1,500 per square foot...

Is that the normal rate for this sort of tower in Chicago?

The exterior rendering looks pretty nice imo, lean, yet imposing, but yea that base lol
