Is this shot from Westview Heights apartments? It looks like you live in my old apartment! We were in 3304 if memory serves.

Kind of old now (was given to the city in November 2011) - the CPC did a set of six videos for elementary aged students - http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/DBA/Pages/...-Episode1.aspx

I'm not sure why some of the uploaded files on the city's account are all over the place in terms of resolution so I reuploaded them for work's YouTube page:

Episode 1 (1911-1929): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96lfdFMcpA8
Episode 2 (1930-1946): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfOFX4Ql1hU
Episode 3 (1947-1960): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9AsPx1IOpg
Episode 4 (1961-1980): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOwhGtEEQck
Episode 5 (1981-1996): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yln0GJAwpng
Episode 6 (1997-2011): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OjhrvtEc2g

*Obvious disclaimer - I work for the production company that put it together.

Tourism Calgary, Calgary Economic Development and Convention Centre's new Destination video called Right Here. Disclaimer: I'm in the video and was involved in the creation. (Albeit a small role)

Just saw it on Facebook.

Shared it with this description: "Just before I moved home, I went on a business trip to Calgary - and completely fell in love. Such a beautiful, enjoyable city where, like St. John's, its residents are proud to live and seem genuinely happy. And its appearance - a tall skyline, modern glass buildings, wide streets - is almost exactly opposite that of St. John's, which makes it very interesting from my perspective. Anyhow... they have a new destination video. It doesn't have that generic anywhereness of most mainland Canadian destination videos - so check it out! What do you think? :-D"

And this comment: "I love the line in that song: "Right here is where I think. It's where I dream. It's where that dream has got some hope of coming true." - a fitting slogan, of sorts, for a city with strong intra-provincial immigration like Calgary."

I was going to post this video, beaten to the punch. I think it's really well done, hopefully it helps change the city's cowboy image...

I think they could have done a better job showing Calgary's ethnic diversity. Other than the guitar player and the occasional cab driver there wasn't a lot of non-white folks in the video.

True... but, for white audiences, brunettes count as ethnic diversity.

Hands down the biggest complaint about the video. Can't really comment on casting as I wasn't involved with that but logistics and cutting of entire scenes for time (eg. lawn bowling) plays a big role.

The kicker is I got asked to be part of the cast because they didn't have a white guy for one of the first scenes shot.

They cut out lawn bowling? As a lawn bowler, I am outraged.

If it's any condolence all that work wasn't lost on the cutting room floor - on top of the destination piece Tourism and CED both now have the start of a much more cinematic BROLL library for use around town. (Similar to Travel Alberta - free to use so long as the video promotes the city/Alberta)

A futuristic looking Calgary in the new Travel Alberta ad. Pretty cool. Surprised they didn't use The Bow at all in this ad.
