(Reply to Grump) Maybe they were temp opening it up to assess conditions down there to make a site startup plan. Either way big holes without safety rails on any/all leading edges have to be covered and marked per safety regulations.

It eliminates strain on the slew gears vs being locked down against a good wind storm.

Before I retired when I worked evenings or midnight's I would take a break and go to the office window(s) and watch the various tower cranes move in the wind on the different downtown projects..

Once construction starts in June, will there still be more work to be done underground or was it mostly done when they quit?

Assuming the lower level is only structurally poured, yes there will be extensive work to install electrical, water, sewer, HVAC, etc

Why so long? Aren't they just inviting more and more cost based on inflation and not having that revenue stream? Maybe they have to redo the foundation? What was the original heights of the two towers again? I have so many questions on the incompetence of these folks lol. Cautionary tale to anyone else in Canada looking for a hotel builder.

They are/were 13 and 18 storey buildings on top of a 3 storey podium (there is a render of 13 and 21 storeys over a 3 storey podium).

I would be pleasantly surprised if they could somehow support a single 28-floor building off of a foundation that was installed for 2 separate shorter towers - but I am not holding my breath on that one.

I think we should operate under the assumption the design is staying similar to what was proposed, until something different is officially released.

I'd prefer the 2 tower design than 1 slightly taller building.

This location doesn't really hit the skyline. The other 3 towers fill that in as best they can. IMO, having 2 towers fills out the more local skyline/street scene.

Would that be 28 floors over the 3 floor podium = 31 or 28 total?
I imagine it would be cheaper to have staff for 1 building rather than 2.
The shorter building was still hotel but more so geared to extended stays.
This way they get the staff to multi task.. security for 1 building not 2.. The 1 entrance/exit for 1 building vs. 2 etc..

So if they are now only building one tower, what are they going to do with all that space that was meant for the second tower? Are we now stuck with more of a permanent gap in the skyline in that space? That would blow if this is the case, and I would rather have the original concept come to fruition.
