New Pocket Parks?

Is there a city policy to create new pocket parks? I stumbled across this site at Yukon and 17th. It seems odd to create a park when there are so many nearby (Mt Pleasant, Douglas, Heather). As you can see from the sign, somebody wasn't impressed!

We need more parks! As areas densify, it makes sense to have public greenspaces that can be enjoyed by many rather than the inefficient old method of private ones aka backyards.

There's a huge park two blocks away that was just renovated in 2011/2012.

They also built another new park on the other end at 18th & Main. Budget was $450,000.. The next nearby park is a block away: Grimmett Park.

I haven't been, but from the photo it's just a concrete path and some abstract red metal benches.

Mt Pleasant Park is 2 blocks away basically. You also have Heather Park about 3 blocks away though you need to cross Cambie. It may be in anticipation of the densification around that area though I am not seeing how a 1 house property sized park would be sufficient for those purposes.

*shrug*

Seems a bit expensive but any park land anywhere in Vancouver will be that expensive now and parkland is a good thing if it meets the needs of the neighborhood. Everything west of Main Street is over $1 million these days. And Gimmett Park isn't a Main and 18th, it is 19th and Quebec. The little grass thing at Main and 18th I wouldn't classify as a "park" more like an elabourate landscape piece beside a major road.
