Snow? In Santa Barbara?

It's cold and rainy and when the clouds lifted a bit yesterday afternoon we got a big suprise...the Santa Ynez Mountains covered in snow! About once every couple of years the ridgeline gets a dusting of snow but this is something else entirely. Snow levels dropped yesterday to about 2,000'!

In the pouring rain it wasn't too conducive to going out and shooting photos (and it's been raining all day again today), but I did get out in my neighborhood during a dry spell late in the day. I live seven blocks from the ocean so snow-capped peaks are kind of amusing.

It supposed to rain on and off till Tuesday so I'm hoping to get some more shots of our wintery experience. Gotta hit up some of the better vantage points in town.

Snow!...amusing...

Odd to see snow in the hills above Santa Barbara, how long does it last there?

Yep, we got some snow down to about 2500 feet here in Los Angeles. For a brief moment I could see the San Gabriel range basking in all white but by the time I went in and got my camera and walked up the hill to take a picture the mountains were behind the clouds again. Some places got over 2 feet of snow and its still snowing. Unfortunately the snow level is supposed to go up to about 8000 feet tomorrow as a subtropical fetch gets caught up in the storm and the same mountains are supposed to get about a foot of rain. Great photos!

Wow, I never would have though Santa Barbara could get snow. I guess it can't hurt once in a while.

Who said that the coastal region of California isn't suitable as a skiing resort?

I never been to Santa Barbara before, but these pictures are so unique with green palm trees with snow in the background. Great thread!

Back to normal today (almost 60 and beautifully sunny). All the snow is gone
