The one on the right looks like Los Angeles HS on Olympic Boulevard, whose old building was condemned after the 1971 earthquake.

I don't think I have enjoyed anything more these last few days than the back-and-forth squabble over the Buicks.
I love 50's cars. But hey! You guys missed my favorite in one of the photos:

The website claims it is a 1959 or 60 Corvette, but I say it is a '58. What do you think?

By the way, I have auto experience myself. I spent the summer of 1969 working at the Ford engine plant in Cleveland,
building "Cleveland 351" engines. Wired up those distributor caps with the best of 'em too.

1954 - Retaining wall and stairs on left side of Hill Street Tunnels lead up to a vacant Bunker Hill. Circular "NO PARKING" sign hangs between
the tunnels. 1952 Los Angeles Police Department Ford Mainline V8 Fordor and unmarked sedan parked nearby.

I believe the old L.A. Police Central Station was behind the photographer.

A couple of observations here: First, the set of lights on the roof of the "unmarked" car kind of give things away. Second, someone has stolen the hub caps.

I read somewhere that the building in question was originally to have been a part of the larger development more or less behind it, which is inclusive of the parking building seen in one of the photos. Some event apparently took place and the Welk building ended up as a stand alone not directly connected to the rest of the development. From what I understand there is no physical connection to the parking garage you mention and probably no guarantee that someone couldn't raise the parking garage leaving a 21 story building without any parking. One has to wonder where Welk parked when he resided in the building.

As I look at the pictures of Bunker Hill posted above, I have finally remembered to ask something I have wondered about: where did they take the hill? And by that I mean the actual ground. They must have collectively moved immense amounts of dirt and rock when cutting down the hillsides and shaving dozens of feet off the top of Bunker Hill, for block after block. Where did it all go?

Bowling alley grand opening, 970 East Colorado, Pasadena. 1929. To one side is a cafe called the Recreation Grill, while the space on the other side is vacant.

I looked... wasn't able to find a prior post on the Home for the Aged of the Little Sisters of the Poor, once, and still partly, at 2750 East 1st Street. (Same palms?)

FredH: The first LAPD Ford (at the tunnels in front of the unmarked beige '51) is a '53... the '53 and the '54 had taillights that differed in profile from the '52's. What confirms it for me is the "Mainline" badge, which was the same as the '52 but was made smaller for '54. I'll defer to you on the second unit--the one with the Juicy Fruit sign....

As for the Corvette--not really a marque of mine, but I did grow up next to a Corvette nut who had a turquoise '58 and once told me it was the only one around that time with hood louvers... don't remember if they were functional. The hood on that blue beauty looks smooth, but it's hard to tell.

Given the angle and quality of the photo it is hard to say exactly what year it is. It appears it may have a hood with no louvers which could make it a '59 or a '60. We can't see whether or not the hood is louvered. A louvered hood would make it a '58. Otherwise, given the very, very minor appearance differences in the '58-'60 "Vettes" it is impossible to make even an educated guess from the photo.

Is this where the Pioneer Memorial currently stands? I also wonder if the steep walkway to the Banning House is visible here or if they are closer to where the current concrete stairs are behind the Pioneer Memorial. The Banning House had been converted to a tavern. I remember reading about a sign at or near the tavern that read something like "climb up, tumble down."

HossC that thing bears a bit of a resemblance to several import cars of the late 1950s, some from Europe, and some from Japan. It bears some characteristics of Delahayes that were designed by Ghia. I think it may more easily be defined as a 1958 Fugly. Just kidding!
