People chase Eclipses on jets. Even flying at moderate altitude 15,000 feet you'll be above most clouds.

It would be possible (if you can take off at the precise time) to take off from Toronto and follow the moon's shadow across to New Brunswick or beyond.

The trick is to fly at the exact speed the moon's shadow moves across Earth's surface.

The main shenanigans here seem to be coalescing around Gander. I've had to deal with some arrangements for some VIPs flying there for it. I genuinely don't expect anyone here to see it? Surely there will be cloud cover? In April? Probably even foggy.

The Exact moment of Greatest Totality in Toronto and Montreal is separated by 8 minutes, the straight distance between the two cities is roughly 303 miles or 513 km...

so to keep up with the Moon's shadow...

you'd have to travel 300 miles in 8 minutes or at over 2100 mph. That's a fighter jet at full throttle.

Debating where is best spot to see it in terms of weather. Clarity of sky.

Niagara Falls clearer or Montreal ? Which spot is sunnier ? Kingston? Toronto Island ?

Trying to find a spot between Montreal and Windsor that offers best chance of a Clear sky. any info appreciated...

You want a better probability of a clear sky in April? Better head to Texas or Mexico.

I'm about 15 miles north of the northern edge of totality and I will be working. But at 3pm, I'm usually on the road back to Woodstock On, so I will probably detour down to St Thomas and find a spot to park between there and Tillsonburg. I've been out in a few partial eclipses but never a total. I remember a big deal being made about one in the late 70s when I was in early grade school but it was cloudy that day (like it probably will be this time too).

1979. I remember my mother being so excited, but warning us kids to not look at the sun. It was like a shadow passing overhead which scared us, hiding behind the couch ha (and saving our eyesight.)

Moncton is like that too.

I'm personally going to miss the eclipse, but, my house will experience 99% totality. About 2 km to the north, on Magnetic Hill, there will be 100% totality.

Looking like only the bottom left +/- 25% of the sun will eclipsed at 12:43 in Calgary, huh.

I'll be in my back yard too, in Port Colborne.
When did you move to Niagara?
I always assumed you were a Toronto resident

It would be nice to drive farther southward or into Niagara to enjoy a longer view, but I think all the routes (main highways and back roads) will be clogged with traffic from the GTA.

And it's a "school day" after all (for the working folk... I think I read that school boards will have PA days on April 8)
You do know there's other routes to get to Niagara than the QEW, if you don't mind country drives

Of course. But I think the traffic will be bad on most routes, QEW especially but 2-lane country roads too, given the power and widespread use of navigation apps. It would hopefully spread out across the region, but Hamilton is a choke-point for anyone driving from Toronto or Mississauga.

Since I live where there will be about 2 mins of totality (if it's not cloudy) and I have ready access to open space just across the street, why would I leave home? I'll be working as well that day, so to leave my place early and return late is not going to be an option.

Too bad you didn't purchase pre 2020 when prices were a lot more reasonable (even though they still are for anyone moving from Toronto/GTA)

How do you like smaller region, small city life?

I rent... Compared to downtown Toronto, its totally different, laid-back, and at the time I didn't realize it would move me into the path of totality.

Here is an edited version of the Montreal Eclipse map deleting the offensive pic of the foul mouth middle finger wrestlers.

I created this thread for an educated discussion of this Solar Eclipse, kindly move your offensive wrestling french filth somewhere else !

Children may be on this forum, use some common sense before posting that filth on here, assuming you have any !

My plan is to be at Long Point Provincial Park on Lake Erie. I got a hotel room in Simcoe at a regular price as I booked a few weeks ago. I also ordered and received an Ontario Parks season vehicle Summer pass which is effective April 1st. The park is supposed to be opening a few days before the eclipse so it there will be bathrooms available and other things to do if it ends up being cloudy. Birdwatching and walking along the beach and it will get dark. I've travelled many places but I've never been to Long Point or Simcoe.

I'm hoping that it's not a rainy/snowy day as I'm going to attempt to take photos and a video.
