18 months give or take.
It'll be at least six months before they start digging. Digging the hole will take another 8-12 months I'd imagine. From there, they'll start working on the foundations. I think we'll see this building reach ground level sometime in 2011.

I just learned that my sister's boyfriend works in the Jin Mao building. Maybe he can snap some ongoing shots of the construction! Unless he's already on this forum... he's a skyscraper freak too, apparently.

I'm absolutely in love with this tower. When it's finished it may be the most perfect building ever constructed.

It's like three times the height of the 21st Century Mansion. Wow!

Is that Ping 'An tower UC, Staff?

Aparently the 21st CM is "only" 210m/689ft so the Shanghai Tower is more than three times the height!

Wow...

Shanghai has an awesome skyline already, but this is just astonishing.

Beautiful towers, surrounded by beautiful towers.

^cool you should say that. It was filmed in Shanghai. The city is very popular in sci-fi flicks and ads for futuristic scenes, especially at night - most famously seen in the Dark Knight.

Actually, the Dark Knight scene that you're talking about was in Hong Kong. He jumped off of the 2 International Finance Center.

Shanghai is still very futuristic regardless.

There was nothing but shanties and farmland in the early 90's. Once Lujiazui was given SEZ status it blew up.
