That is really nice to read about. In most cases landlords only want multinationals or national chain tenants.

This whole commercial tax thing on residential development potential is absolute insanity. It will never be an issue however with the civic governments as it is a non starter for them.

Granville Street falls back on hard times

Fri, Feb 24: Businesses along Vancouver’s Granville street say more than two dozen store closures are a symptom of a bigger problem, and the city is getting in the way of fixing it.
GLOBAL NEWS

Looks like the former Granville 7 retail project is held up by, surprise surprise, City permits! All the red tape and social issues are hardly addressed by this rather 3rd world City Hall. Or perhaps not everyone is back from their Christmas break?

You need to find a better term to trash city hall with:

Definition of third world from Merriam Webster
Quote:
1: a group of nations especially in Africa and Asia not aligned with either the Communist or the non-Communist blocs
2: an aggregate of minority groups within a larger predominant culture
3: the aggregate of the underdeveloped nations of the world

There's a lot of empty stores on most strips that has nothing to do with red tape and everything to do with runaway property values and increasing tax evaluations.

What is going to be interesting to see if the impact that lockers has on click-and-collect. Stuff like this:

What about the strips with no empty stores? That video clearly shows what the business owners are going though to get their businesses running, so how come you seem to know more? Have you ever applied to have a renovation done or approved by the City?

Funny, but I see the exact definition on Granville street, especially the part about minority.

i think i would prefer to use click and collect over home delivery cause i live in an apartment and most of the time they say they won't deliver to it when i shop online and if they do they just leave a card telling you to go to the postal outlet and pick it up after 24 hours. I've literally sat all day waiting for a package, and go downstairs and find the pick up notice stuck to the mailbox or door.

The lockers idea might be ok if conveniently located.

There is a company experimenting with putting both manned pickup counters and lockers into high-rise building on the Toronto waterfront. Neat idea. FedEx delivers into the locker or pickup location and you just down and pick it up. The building needs to have available floor space for a such a service.

Sweet! I haven't been in a Sunrise since I was a kid. I see that they will be selling CDs and other Merch. but no playing devices. If they stocked a good selection of turntables at different price points, they would help drive the demand for future record sales and boost profits. I can't remember if they also sell used records? That would be awesomesauce.

HMV had turntables (I got one for xmas) but I don't think they sold all that many of them.

Btw they confirmed Metrotown on FB today. I'm guessing Guildford and either Willowbrook (cheaper rent and a good spread of locations) or Coquitlam (next to the Skytrain) will happen.

Smart move, we're inundated with large format outlet type retailers. When hr2 was conceived we only had Winners around, since then Marshall's, Saks Off 5th and Nordstrom Rack are all competing for market share. Good of Holt's to steer clear of what's likely to be saturation of this type of format.

The only thing that's surprising about this is how long it took. The stores have seemed like ghost towns for years; I rarely see any customers in them.

That'll leave quite a few holes in our malls and on Robson. I hope they can find someone to fill the 1080 Robson location fast, they haven't managed to lease the former A|X space next-door yet and Robson can't afford any more large vacancies.

Other BCBG locations include Pacific Centre, Oakridge, Richmond Centre
