Taken in 2002, 2005, and 2007 during various trips across the Wolverine State. Put on some Bob Seeger and pop open a can of Faygo or Stroh's.

JACKSON - Jackson County

A city of 35,000, which peaked at 50,000. Pound-for-pound, one of the best small-city skylines out there. I'm guessing the towers reflect a period of prosperity from supplying a few parts to Detroit.

GRAND RAPIDS - Kent County

I need to introduce my friend to a magical device they have at the gas station that will clean windows

South Division area - October 2002

MACKINAC COUNTY

northern tip of Lake Michigan

St. Ignace - about 9:50pm in mid-June

FLINT - Genesse County

When in Flint, visit Tyrone Kirklands' bridal shop near the Capitol Theatre. Tyrone is a gracious steward of the city of Flint and will be very excited to see you. Don't believe him when he says that he will refrain from showing you naked pictures of his boyfriend. You have no choice.

My friend from Grand Rapids has a grandfather who was part of a group that found a Mastodon skeleton while laying the brick on Saginaw Street. She has serious Michigan cred.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY

Sleeping Bear

Ask these people if the slide to the bottom was worth it. Again, it was like 95 degrees.

BATTLE CREEK - Calhoun County

Calhoun County is named after John C. Calhoun and is one of the "Cabinet Counties" in south central MI named after Andrew Jackson and the members of his cabinet.
Jackson signed Michigan into statehood.

I need to visit: Saginaw, Bay City, Muskegon, Marquette, Dearborn, Holland, Houghton/Hancock, Germfask, Bad Axe...

You made Detroit look the best out of all those photos. I seriously commend you for making Grand Rapids look like Flint. Awesome job.

Seriously great thread. You do Michigan proud with the pics. I would suggest that you hit Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor springs next time you are in northern michigan. They have some great views of the lake, and some really quirky small town architecture. I love the pics of the dunes as well.

lol! I was going to say the same thing. He managed to make Grand Rapids look on par with Flint, and worst than Motown!

Interesting, eclectic tour of a pretty weird little state.

I advise to take a trip down Michigan's West Coast from Muskegon St. Joseph/Benton Harbor making sure to stop in Grand Haven, Holland, Saugatuck, and South Haven. Oh, a get some pictures of Traverse City (quicky growing and healthy region) to the north.

You could spend an entire day taking pictures of Dearborn. The Village, the Henry Ford, the Rouge, the Arab east end, Fairlane, the Hyatt, the Glass House.

Ok, I could spend a day there taking pictures, if I remember to bring a camera.

Nice pictures. I enjoyed the nature pictures the most. I didn't know that the Sleeping Bear Dunes were that big, I always thought that they were half that size.

It always reminded me of the time back in the mid 80s' when I was out camping with my folks. We spent some time in Michigan and we went out to the dunes at Sleeping Bear. We were given a brochure and it had a picture of a dune with dozens of people climbing up and down. So when we got to the lakeshore, I assumed that was the dune and I ran down to the lakeshore. Of course, then I had to climb back up. It took nearly a half an hour to get back up. I was only 16 at the time. When I got back to the top, I saw warning signs about climbing the dunes. That was about a 450 foot dune. The one in the brochure was about 100 feet.

Fortunatly I was a good climber and I used to climb the dunes at the Great Sand Dunes NP in Colorado. But I will always remember my experience at the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Even S. Division is looking nice in GR now a days... I love your pictures though!!!!!!!!!!!!

Downtown GR, it was -5 out with wind chill of -20 when I took that, it was hazy due to ice crystals flying around
