I don't understand. Those don't look like igloos at all.

In all seriousness, very interesting. Is the casino an old train station?

I didn't even catch that when I saw the picture. I noticed the hotel signage. It looks like something you would find on the Jersey Shore.

I think it's one of the ugliest buildings I've ever seen.

I found Regina to have a much different feel than Ontario, though it is definitely Canadian. You will see some differences in the residential tour I post (coming soon).

First visit to Saskatchewan, and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by Regina's stock of early 20C architecture.

Definitely a nice little city, punching well above its weight for a metro of only 210,000.

It started out as an actual bank, then a restaurant called "The Bank"... which led to... Sushi Bank. That's building has a date with the wrecking ball, though... here's what's going in there:

Great photos, flar!

EDIT: Whoops, didn't see crooked rain's post. Anyway, that Plains sign is being preserved in the new development -- it's actually used to signal the weather forecast.

I grew up here and just took Regina's downtown as the norm for a city of around 200K but as I've started looking at photo threads and those of other cities of similar size. I now understand why people say that Regina's skyline and downtown punches well above its weight for a city of its size. I also think that Regina has a very good mix of modern mid-rise (hi-rise for Regina) towers and older buildings with great architecture and with a couple of new towers and residences going up downtown in the very near future plus possibly a new multi-pupose stadium just north of downtown which would join downtown and the warehouse district and the 12th Avenue portion of Victoria Park being partially converted into a new plaza with old style cobbled-like street...that should make a huge difference to the urban feel of downtown for this little prarie city.

- Donahue Block

This location is reputed to be the location of the first house in Regina, the Selby residence, which was moved to Albert Street in 1910. Built in 1911 of steel & reinforced concrete, this block was one of the few buildings to withstand the direct force of the 1912 tornado. All the window were blown out and James Milton Scott was found dead inside. The building was originally occupied by the Child & Gower Furniture, and the upper floors contained apartments for a number of years.
