Ironton, Ohio, an industrial community of 12,000, is located along the Ohio River near the southernmost point in the Buckeye state. Although the city once boomed with heavy industry, leading to a considerable growth in population and a large and vibrant downtown, Ironton today is a quiet bedroom community in the Huntington-Ashland MSA.
This is a photographic update of the town. Although I have many more photographs of Ironton, they are in the archives of the old site and will be added back to this current site in the future.
1 The First Presbyterian Church, located on land donated by the Ohio Iron and Coal Company along South 5th Street, was organized on July 27, 1850 with fourteen members.(1) The first building was finished and dedicated on Thanksgiving Day 1852. The second iteration of the building was constructed between 1873 and 1882. The Sunday School occupies the original church.

6 The First United Methodist Church, located at Center Street and North 5th Street, has been in existence since 1852 when it was called Spencer Chapel. In 1893, the current building, the Spencer Church, was constructed. In 1913, the Wesley and Spencer Churches merged, becoming known as the First Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1939, the Methodist and Protestant churches merged nationally, resulting in the First Methodist Church. This was followed by a merger in 1968 with the Evangelical United Brethren Church, which resulted in the First United Methodist Church.

8 The Berg Building, located at 223 South 2nd Street, was constructed in 1867 and is a part of the Berg and Brumberg Building complex. The complex consisted of three inter-connected buildings. Formerly abandoned, the building is being converted into six market rate apartments and a transit hub with a coffee shop. The development, and that of the neighboring Brumberg Building (the tan colored building behind it that is five stories), has received Ohio Department of Development Historic Preservation Tax Credits. The Berg Building project will be finished in late 2011.

12 The Marting Hotel used to be abandoned. It underwent an extensive restoration due to its severely deteriorated condition. It is a senior citizen housing complex today.
