seriously, this is one of the best NYC threads ever and there have been many so that's saying something............one question, i see that you got into Eataly's beer garden ,La Birreria , how did you manage to get in and how was your experience? i am dying to go .i have read good (quality of food and selection of beer) to bad (difficult to get in and no real good views despite being on a rooftop) how'd you like it?

hi and thx i work all around the city so i am trying to keep a wide mix of neighborhoods not just the usual sights.

as for la birreria yeah its a zoo (as is all of eataly) so i would suggest going in the afternoon rather than at night. defiantely go tho as all of eataly is quite a sight.

one important point, you can only go up when your whole party has arrived so go in all together. also, although it was initially advertised as a rooftop beer garden it isnt at all, its a restaurant. it has a small bar area, but its mostly seating for dining only. its covered and there is almost no view, from the bar its mostly of that crapola apt building next to the flatiron

the food is batali-hearty and good, but i am a craft beerfan and i did not like the beers. they are brewed by dogfishhead and at first you might think thats great everybody loves that 90min IPA right? problem is their head brewer left to go home to cleveland and open his own brewery -- it shows. so dont go just for that, there are plenty of other real beer gardens and great craft beer bars around nyc (the blind tiger is my favorite).

here's a menu+info:

i know! i do too. it was forelorn and decrepit forever, but as you can see at last its being redeveloped. now there are little food shops open on the ground floors underneath. spillover from the success of stone street around the corner? i was so happy to see that.

cool pics

the general quality of camera photos is not always the best but they have a real charm/intimacy you don't often get with high quality digital cameras
