You were on to something there - 11 beams put in place today already...

[QUOTE=Mikieman;7981398]Spot the cranes...

IMHO , I think the cladding on the 248' Ludlow tower is flat ugly .

But then it has the unfortunate distinction of being across the street from the
ugliest high rise building on Market st. , the Aramark blob .

I hope the 284'er will don a much more attractive facade ..... I hope .

...... But thanks for posting that shot .....

I think the facade rates somewhere around a 6 for me. It isn't anything special but it is a nice break from the glass.
The 284' cladding is designed to look like PSFS, so I think it'll be a lot better.

Ok , a nice break from the glass but I think your 6 rating is a bit generous

East Market deserves all the help it can get and I hope the taller tower will be more ascetically appealing .

Not sure when , or if 1301 Market will become reality or if anything will ever rise above ground level at
8th.& Market .... ( in my lifetime ) , but they are two locations crying for developement .

PS ; Have you seen any renders , elevations , post-ups or cover mats for what the second tower might look like .

Times a thousand. I'm still disappointed that CC1 didn't get the yellow stone (i.e., Art Museum) cladding that was originally promised.

It's funny you bring that up. I was just thinking about that myself the other day.

Or the original:

I think that that first rendering is quite ugly. It doesn't blend well.
As for the second one, I like it, but I feel as if though it wouldn't be as powerful as what it turned out to be, simply because of height

To each his own. I think the "jump drive" is ugly and bulky. I've gotten used to it.

Fair enough.
I don't think it can be argued that CTC isn't an improvement over CC. It dominates the skyline much more confidently.

Hey, everybody can be a critic of something. The CITC may be the city and the state's tallest, but personally, I think it's uninspiring and boring. Doesn't dominate the skyline the way the ACC was supposed to or even Liberty Place and City Hall did during the past. The CITC is a homely tower!

Yes , beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder .
Personally I don't mind ANY of the newly constructed or maybe soon to be , but something can certainly be said
for the lost art of a by gone era and its contribution to the cities heritage .

I'm all for development that creates well paying jobs and adds promise to the future but I think cities like Philly
almost have an obligation to remind us of who we are and where we came from ..... architecturally .

So , adding my half pence to the conversation , two really neat old towers that impress the shit out of me are ,
the Walton Hotel and the Pennsylvania RR Broad st. terminal .
Places like this will NEVER see the light of day again .... shame .

Interesting point of view . I think there will be two more floors of steel then topped off .
P.S. What is that rusty cement tower thing behind Jefferson

Is the old building, soon to be a hotel, getting it's face washed?

^ Gonzo:

That's a smokestack.
I think I heard long ago it's from the furnace that Jefferson used to cremate the cadavers that the students learned from. I could be wrong on this.

I don't know what it used to do but currently it is the smokestack for the diesel back-up generator for the Jefferson Hospital complex.

They need to switch up to another generator other than diesel. Hint-Hint-natural gas or steam. Every year, I routinely see that smokestack spew out plume of black smoke and it lingers above it for a good 10-15 mins before being carry around Philly. If that's not pollution, I don't know what is. And, it can't be good if you have any sort of lung disease. Kind of ironic for a hospital, don't you think?
