Indeed. I was literally just staring at that picture, thinking "Look at that atrocity. All of that land with so much potential... wasted." Let's hope the post office moves to the airport sooner rather than later. That site has so much potential.

It will never happen, but I dream of that post office spot becoming a full central city park. Think of Lauralhurst park just plopped into the central city. It would be a glorious end to the park blocks.

I'm hoping for a new tallest for this area.

My dream is for some sort of "Rockefeller like" complex at the Post Office site that also connects to the North Park Blocks.

I agree one hundred percent. The area around will fill in over time. A great urban park would be outstanding and world-class.

This site has other plans. Hopefully when the post office moves it will become part park as well as a bike bridge forming the new Green Loop. Download the documents from the city site.

And a story at bikeportland.org

I agree.

If it were more in the center of the city, a Central Park would be great... but it isn't really central. It's tucked in an awkward spot at the north east end of the Pearl. It'd be great to continue the North Park Blocks strip through the site and develop around that.

It is in the center of the city, the Pearl District is a part of the City Center, and it would just be on the north end of downtown. Plus downtown from the 405 to Fremont is only a couple miles long.

Oh, I know. I just mean that it's tucked in a corner of the Pearl (along an edge, really). The site has so much potential, but I don't think one giant park makes the best use for that particular chunk of land.

If an MLB/NFL team wants to pay to build a stadium I'd think it'd be a great location for that. I'm not okay with throwing money at bring a team here, but if we're really a market they love it would be a great location.

Otherwise a new tallest building would be nice.

Again, there is a lot of room for development, but the Broadway bridgehead is a pivotal part of the 2030s bike plan and green loop (documents above). Placing a gigantor building here that encompasses the entire area such as a stadium would be an incredible mistake, and would ignore many years of planning documents. The northwest and southeast parts of this property would be ideal for sizable development, particularly after the new PNCA building opens across the street. The SW part of this property would be a fantastic continuation of the park blocks.

I totally misread you original comment to my post, yeah I agree that wouldn't be the best location for a large park. Extending the park blocks north would be more than plenty.

It is back up. Powell's just posted a picture on Twitter:

I can't believe they just reinstalled their dingy, old, 82nd Ave liquor store sign.

Some remodel.
