Very Surprised Vancouver doesn't have a full time EDM terrestrial station like C-89 in Seattle.

^ One thing that really surprised me when I moved to Vancouver from Regina is that radio sucks just as bad here.

I was expecting tons of variety and different genres. But no, it's the same stuff. A couple top 40 stations, a couple classic rock stations, and an indie-pop station. Each station has their own playlist of 50 songs that they play over and over again. Regina basically has the same amount of variety (no indie station but it has country and hard rock stations) and it's a monocultural city of just 220,000 people.

94.5 used to be all hip hop, 104.9 was all 90s "alternative" like Nirvana, 99.3 was contemporary rock (maybe still are?)... now they're all just trying to postpone their death at the hands of streaming internet/satellite radio. I only listen to News1130 myself these days if I touch conventional radio at all.

back in 90 or 91 when Z95/3 started up it was a house/dance station, that format lasted until about 93, i knew the dream was over when i landed at the airport and tuned it in and heard bryan adams back in the day Z was a great station if you were into dance or EDM as they call it now

That's true and such would be a great addition. Whenever I am in Seattle I also enjoy NPR a lot. Lots of interesting and intelligent talk programs on. I even listed to them while driving in Hawaii!

Recently I have found myself tuned to jrFM and also C-FOX. The latter just annoys the heck out of me with their constant "world famous C-FOX" mantra. Like how are they world famous?? I love their morning show.

I don't understand why radio stations haven't somehow made their signal more widely available in digital form, especially in car stereos. I've streamed CFMI through bluetooth in my car and the difference is huge compared to the regular FM signal.

they did change last month or so from Kiss to Sonic.

Now the Peak has changed to Now Radio which is "Adult Favourites" basically seems like the same format as Move FM.

The Peak seemed to just up their advertising in the weeks before they changed format.

Well, duh. And yet it worked. Many people talked about that vs. The latest format change.
