Pilsenarch I'm just curious, how'd they scout the location for your house? Did they just start touring random houses in parts of town they thought would fit their vision? Neat stuff...
Location scouts are constantly trolling all around town looking for sites to shoot. I've actually got a second shoot in a year going on at my buildings by Lagunitas tomorrow morning. This time it's Empire, last time was Chicago PD. A neighbor of mine got lucky and they rented his storefront as a semi-permanent set for a major character of this new show "Proven Innocent". They are paying this guy about 15 times what he used to get from the bodega that he had in there for years before they went out of business 9 months ago. Made up that 9 months of lost rent in less than a day... The shoot I have going on tomorrow is paying the tenants rent for the month in the unit they are using and they are paying my mortgage for the month. They are also staining my porch for me because they had to hack it all up and make it look old and crappy for the scene. Pretty amazing to watch these guys work...

A Safe Haven

Drawings for a new veteran's home at 2920 W Roosevelt have hit the street. 5-story SRO, 90 total units. Good to see new development that far west, but you guys are gonna love the rendering:

Well, in my case, LVDW is basically right... they identified my home (easily visible from the Dan Ryan) as potentially having an awesome view of the loop from the south which is what they were looking for in terms of this character... from there, they simply left a note on the door to give them a call...

after numerous visits from multiple directors, they finally committed (also, they liked the high ceilings and artwork (which you probably know they had to track down all of the artists to get their permission to film) that would indicate a home lived in by an African-American)...

It’s always been massive, even pre-1950 when it was just Rush Hospital, Cook County Hospital and the U if I hospital/med school acting independently. The buildings loomed over Little Italy, even back then it was probably the tallest cluster of buildings away from the lakefront.

The problem there, since the creation of IMD scrubbed away whole neighborhoods around the hospitals and pumped wide roads like Damen and Roosevelt through, has been to lure residents and businesses back to create a more efficient, round-the-clock area that doesn’t shut down outside of 9-5. The new Gateway is a good first step that will eventually connect the IMD better to Tri-Taylor, but the key problem is that the IMD remains closed off to residential development. Retailers and restaurants only have so much desire to open in a location where the customers only come in from 8-2. Hotels like the 3 flags going into the old Cook County are a part of that solution, but they really need to build significant residential there and make it truly mixed use a instead of using it as a land reserve for whenever the State needs land in the city.

I'm so happy to see progress at the Mega Mall. Now if only they would do something about that crater at Six Corners.
