S-Bahnhof Julius-Leber-Brücke to open May 2nd

S-Bahnhof Julius-Leber-Brücke to open May 2nd.

http://www.s-bahn-berlin.de/aktuell/...er-bruecke.htm

The station formely known as kolonnenstrasse was badly damaged in 1943 by an alllied bombing raid, and then destroyed in 1944 by another allied bombing raid, the station was never rebuilt.

However, West Berlin planned to rebuild it from 1984 but something always got in the way!

You can see construction photos here from the below links!

^ If they don't keep the great open spaces of Tempelhof then the development will have destroyed the character of the building.

good stuff Grumpy, I had read about those today and a few days ago. Heide straase certainly looks a big project with the BND one also

There's also another redevelopment near Kobis dreieck/Diplomatenpark, ongoing project, where a lot of construction has been done since 2004, including the Saudi embassy. More construction started, the first few links below show the renderings for Kobis dreieck!

According to the Tempelhof project another new S-bahn station is planned next to the existing Tempelhof Ring Bahn station!

@ boredguy, according to the plans most of the Tempelhof area will be parkland with the existing building being used as a centre for innovation/business etc and housing areas to the East, north and the South, but most of the Tempelhof area shall remain parkland!

found this image on the EnergieForum von Berlin: a superb integration of new & old architecture imo

[QUOTE=Grumpy;3483912]@ khazars : why don't you post those images instead of the links ?

Because then I would have to download them all and save them and then link to them @ a webpage which is already running out of space!

I don´t think that these plans on Tempelhof airport are going to be realized since there are too many protests against the closing of the building as an airport.

it´s also a question of culture, history and pride, what the senate doesn't seem to know too many things about >_<

I'll check for more decent info later.
I found an image of that enormous concrete cylinder:

I found this website a while ago, with many links to other sites then forgot to post it. It shows old Berlin buildings from the Hitler period with the ones which are still with us today! There are a few photos of the above one you posted but they are virtually the same!
