No, its in Manhattan at around 11th St & 6th Ave. The red brick tower is the Jefferson Market Library.

Is the metal sheeting on the three rings going to be removed? I recall one of the renders showed the rings without the sheeting.

Yep, that's right folks! No one actually has a positive opinion of this building, they're just scared to admit that it sucks!

What do you mean by this? It looks as good as we expected, it's not like the renders depicted something radically different. In fact, the current appearance of the spire is not what we thought we were originally getting at all.

...unless you're referring to those original horrible proposals?

I was actually referring to those original horrible proposals so thank god those never saw the light of day.

Also I think most of the renderings of this current plan looked pretty bad, but it looks good in real life so that's all that really matters.

Seems like the twins had that feeling in pictures but the new tower doesn't. However, I havent seen the new WTC in person for a couple years so Im hoping its a very biased opinion...

Keep in mind that this building tapers from some angles, it is also one building and not two, but yea you're right, I feel the same way.

I have however, seen this building in person (when it was maybe 1150 or so feet high) and it was huge, almost to an overwhelming extent, if all 4 towers are built, I can imagine the affect will be much greater.

I can honestly say that if something is done about the spire, and towers 2 and 3 built, I will be almost completely satisfied with this complex.

Has anyone else noticed that the dark mechanical band, from about 1150 -1250 feet is right about where the first plane hit the north tower?

That kind of creeps me out.

Maybe that's why the mech floors are there (unofficially, of course).

When I saw it, it was far, far more imposing than it looked in pictures. The most massive building I'd ever seen in person.

But then again, I did not see the twins, so I can't say how they appeared in real life compared to 1WTC.

I've seen both up close, in person, and the new one is more overwhelming to me. The glass makes this building look "more real than real" for lack of a better term.

Is it just me or did 8 Spruce look much bigger before 1Wtc, now it looks like a little flimsy when up next to this bohemoth.. Is 8 Spruce taller than 4Wtc?

^^^^ the difference in height is even more than that. The Beekman is somewhere between 800 and 900 feet while 1 WTC by roof height is 1,368 ft.

I have seen both in person. For me, nothing would compare to how imposing the twins were with their sheer size. However the new 1WTC is massive, and certainly from lower Manhattan it is very domineering over it's neighbours.

Would I rather have the twins? Yes.
Do I think this is a great replacement? Absolutely.

I think that is exactly what he is referring to. I have a pretty good idea of it, because I felt the same way. I mean that was the ugliest proposal I've ever seen, and on top of the circumstances, that would be two fold.
