This would be number two for halifax in 2011, three if you count the suicide

HALIFAX — Halifax police said they had wrapped up their investigation at the scene of a murder and suicide and believe a man killed his neighbour in his apartment before killing himself.

Police were called to an apartment building at 7 Galaxy Ave. in Dartmouth on Friday where they found the bodies of Patrick Lee MacGrath, 58, and Marguerite Maude Kenney, 60.

Why would anyone count a suicide as a murder?

Suicides are investigated as homicides until they can prove that the killer and the deceased are the same person. It doesn't count as homicide in the end. If it did, it would be a horrible bias against northern cities.

MONTREAL - One man was dead and another remained in hospital in critical condition late Saturday after a shooting in Montreal's Rosemont district.

According to Montreal police Constable Simon Delorme, the victims were found by police around 7:30 p.m. near the corner of 30th Ave. and Bélanger St. At least one bullet hit each man, Delorme said.

They were listed in very critical condition in hospital immediately following the shooting, but around 11 p.m., police confirmed one of the victims had succumbed to his wounds.

Popular musician Bad News Brown killed

A popular Montreal musician, who’s opened for stars like Snoop Dogg, Kanye West and 50 Cent, was killed early Saturday in Little Burgundy.

The body of Bad News Brown was found near Richmond and William Sts., a gritty, mostly industrial area near the Lachine Canal. Although sources say Frappier was shot, police say they won't be confirming the nature of the fatal attack until they make an arrest.

It is the seventh homicide this year in Montreal. Last year on this same date, there were three.

Never heard of him though opening for those guys is pretty impressive. According to wiki:

The Hip-Hop MC along with his signature sound has taken him from his beginnings as a teenage busker in the streets of Montreal to touring 200+ venues opening for Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Aerosmith, The Eagles, N.E.R.D., Soulja Boy, Ciara, Common, Lloyd Banks, Jadakiss, John Legend, Gym Class Heroes, Ice Cube, Booba and Sinik and accompanying on stage Nas, Ice T, Cypress Hill, and De La Soul.

I think Grande Prairie is still at 0 for the year, we usually have around 3 or 4, which puts us pretty high per capita

Edmonton has 7 murders so far this year

In 2010, the city didn't have that many until May

Not a great start to the year for Edmonton, it's already at 11.

Montreal at 10 I believe.

Toronto at 11.

^Homicides.

Sorry that was obvious. I'm guessing the usual gang activity is just at a bit of a boiling point right now. It will probably ebb a bit and the numbers will look more like normal in a few months.

Actually, I think some (most?) of these homocides in Edmonton have been domestic violence related. The most recent was a woman killed by her ex-husband.
