I didn't know they could build so tall out of plastic.

You know this building looks a bit like the demolished Singer Building.

You're right. It would have been a good replacement.

The Post reminded me of this again today, another tower I wish had been built.

I've never seen these renderings before, Arquitectonica & Murphy/Jahn's proposals for the site. Murphy/Jahn's design would have been sweet!

I believe this was the winning design, proposed by Longeron Associates:

Yeah, I always liked the Murphy/Jahn proposal for South Ferry Tower. Too bad it never got built.

Frank Williams' design for South Ferry and the Murphy Jahn one for South Street Seaport. Win-Win.

I believe this is the one I saw in print (bottom).

A good site that still has yet to reach its full potential!

I agree with you on this skyscraper as it would have had a distinct design and also an observatory deck and restaurant on the top floors. Imagine how popular a tourist attraction this building, particularly the observation deck would have become.

Yeah, this tower would have been amazing. I like the alternate designs too.

Hopefully one day this site will be back in play for a major tower. It's such an incredibly prominent location.

If a tower like this is built on that site, sea level rise will have to be factored in and this is was not the case in the 1980's.

Of course. The city has new coastal regulations for all newer developments.

The site has a rebuilt ferry terminal, mostly for the SI ferry operations. It was built maybe in the late 1990's. I wonder if it were built to accommodate a future tower?

Looks like the original post link doesn't work. I wanted to see a picture of the old proposal, so it could be posted in this thread. Would have been a great addition to the skyline. Quite a difference from all the refrigerators hugging the waterfront.
