I read somewhere that demolition of the existing mall would start at the end of May.

Amazon poised to lease iconic new Seattle office tower, dramatically expanding footprint again

That means the major points have been hashed out, sources said, and only final details remain.

The project, which shares a downtown Seattle block with the uniquely designed Rainier Tower, includes a 58-story office and residential building as well as a 12-story hotel. The office space totals 710,000 square feet on the lower floors, with 220 residential units above. The adjacent hotel has 165 rooms.

Greg Johnson, president of Wright Runstad & Co., the developer on the project, declined to comment on leasing details. Amazon representatives did not respond to a request for comment.

Johnson said construction is slated to begin in the next couple months. Due to the construction, all the retail in the existing Rainier Tower has closed.

The Puget Sound Business Journal previously reported that Amazon was interested in the space.

So Seattle's getting in on the boot tower action lol, reminds me a lot of the Eau Du Soleil project. Could be iconic if done right.

Amazon is taking all 722,000 square feet of office space in the high-rise that will be Seattle's second tallest building after Columbia Center. (rest of article is behind paywall)

Can't wait for this one. Seattle has several buildings in the 700 foot range with a sudden jump to the 900+ range. An 850 footer has been in much need for over 25 years. Glad this looks about to start.

What was the reason for designing this unusual piece in this manner?? I give it 8/10 as it is definitely different but a bit monolithic in form. The cladding looks killer though, if it has lighting features at night, 9.5/10!

Rainier Square shops come down to make way for Rainier Square tower

The iconic 41-story Rainier Tower won't be altered.

The new tower will have 722,000 square feet of office space for Amazon on the lower floors. Floors 41-58 will have 200 luxury apartments, including penthouses on the top two floors.

A sky lobby on the 40th floor will separate the offices and apartments.

The first two levels of Rainier Square will have 79,000 square feet of retail/amenity/fitness space, including an Equinox gym and a 20,000-square-foot organic food market. Parking for 1,000 cars will be on six levels below grade.

A second phase will add a 163-room hotel in a separate 12-story building adjacent to the towers. It will be developed by Wright Runstad and New York-based Related Cos.

The Rainier Square project website shows hotel construction starting in late 2018 and finishing in summer 2020.

^There was a pub in there that I ate and drank at the last time I was in Seattle that i'm pretty sure i'll never be going back to.

They're two months behind because I read they were supposed to start in October
