Reston core to expand southward as JBG advances major additions for RTC West

I'm unable to post images from the Washington Business Journal site but there are renderings accompanying this article.

Reston core to expand southward as JBG advances major additions for RTC West

By Michael Neibauer
Washington Business Journal
Aug. 1, 2016

"In late 2014, when it first proposed a retail infusion for the suburban office park then known as Reston Executive Center, owner The JBG Cos. indicated that it was only the first phase of a dramatic transformation of the nearly 14-acre property.

The second phase, JBG revealed recently, will complete the overhaul of what is now called RTC West into a 1.8 million-square-foot "integrated, pedestrian-oriented and more urban" development — one located roughly a quarter of a mile from the planned Reston Town Center Metro station.

RTC West will be closer to Metro than the town center itself. JBG explains in a statement submitted to Fairfax County in late June that the changes "provide a significant opportunity to extend the character" of the Reston Town Center core to the south and west..."

Another day, another 30+ story highrise breaking ground in Tysons. NV Tysons Central has officially broken ground at Route 7 and Route 123.

Landmark concept for Tysons will remove one of the biggest barriers to urbanity, the cloverleaf interchange at Route 7 and Route 123, and might include some air rights development a central park.

The above are only concepts right now, further studying on which option makes the most sense/ financing structure is just beginning.

Reston Town Center

There are some new renderings of the One Reston Town Center building, a proposed 23-story building off of Reston Parkway, across the street from the Reston Town Center. The renderings are courtesy of the developer's website. Apologies ahead of time for the large size of the images.

Earlier this summer, the "Corner" in Tysons Corner was officially dropped by the U.S. Census Bureau. From now on it's Tysons, and that alone.

Wiehle Ave, Reston, development

I am not able to post images from the Washington Business Journal but this will be a massive development. Invest in transit and watch the surrounding areas boom!

JBG, EYA plan 17.5 acres of mixed-use near Wiehle-Reston East

By Karen Goff
Washington Business Journal
Nov. 14, 2016

"JBG is teaming with two other developers to turn a stretch of parking lots and office buildings into 1.6 million square feet of mixed-use development near the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station.

The development application, recently accepted by the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning, seeks to transform the 17.5-acre parcel east of Wiehle Avenue and south of Sunset Hills Road into residential, retail, an independent senior living center and park space, among other uses.

JBG (as 1831 Wiehle LLC for this project) will partner with Bethesda-based EYA and The Chevy Chase Land Company. The application says the project will involve consolidating several parcels, beginning with 1831 Wiehle Ave., located across Wiehle from the Metro station. The development will take up several blocks and include current office buildings at 1861 Wiehle, and 1860 and 1840 Michael Faraday Drive as it moves to the east..."

Reston/Silver Line transit-oriented development

Here are a couple of photos I took a few weeks ago of the second phase of the Reston Station development at the Wiehle Ave metro station.

It would be part of a development called The View at Tysons, which would also include shorter office towers, more retail, and a public plaza.

According to developer Dan Clemente, funding is lined up and ready to go as soon as Fairfax grants zoning approval. That will probably take 12-18 months.

The Signature (Reston Town Center)

I also took these photos of the Signature development (located at the northeast end of the Reston Town Center) at the end of March.
