Drove by it last night, and they're starting the floor plates for the 4th floor, actually. Should start to shoot up relatively quickly after that. I believe that's the first floor of the tower floors, which is where the floors transfer to repeated floorplates.

That's a really big lot for a smaller tower. I think they should bump the height by a few floors.

Obviously it's too early to form an opinion, but the first few pieces of glass suggest that the final product might not look as cheap and plastic-y as originally thought.

High ground floor like all the new buildings should have. I predict 8th/Grand will look absolutely awful & anti-pedestrian compared to this.

From the LA Downtown News. Don't know the exact date of the photo, but it's recent. Another view of the glass panels:

Urban sprawl

For those of us that have spent some time in Vancouver, it doesn't take long before you realize the revitalization of its downtown core has been going on for some time. The point I'm eluding to is what can be simply called urban sprawl. This has been seen across North America and I'm most cases is still continuing. That is, where cities don't have geological obstacles such as rivers or canyons we see development continue to spread across the landscape. Cities such as Vancouver, where rivers and an ocean are it's obstacles, the redevelopment and consequently its revitalization has already begun nearly 2 decades ago.
Los Angeles has grown so far out that any person faces living at least an hour away in good traffic scenarios. New York has been forced to redevelop its core continuously for decades.
Onni Group has done a fabulous job in Vancouver along with other developers and its model for success will be copied in Los Angeles. Vancouver is one of the most sought after destinations in the world. Onni's latest development in Vancouver overlooks science world, BC Place stadium, 1/2 block to mono rail transit and surrounded by miles of bike paths. Awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.
