A permit request was filed today to set a temporary pole to connect electricity to construction trailers at 301 West. This is the site of the ECC tower, but it's too soon for construction trailers. So I suspect some of the or trailers at Seaholm or Green may be moving to the ECC parking lot.

Rhode Partners is designing this - http://rhodepartners.com/

If you go to their website, under "news" they have this listed on their website back in May:

Quote:
Preliminary design has begun on Block 24, located at 3rd Street & West streets in downtown Austin, Tx. The program includes a 50-60 story tower with below grade parking, retail, office and 400 to 500 residential apartments. RHODE PARTNERS will lead a team of designers with extensive experience in innovative high rise design. The project is required to achieve LEED Gold certification, providing an opportunity to raise the standard for high rise residential towers. The $140M project is anticipated to begin construction in 3Q 2015.

$140 million seems cheap for a 50-60 story tower...especially when they are "required to achieve LEED Gold certification."

This isn't breaking news, but the project seems to have a name (other than The ECC Tower): Block 24 Condominiums. They've had a place holder website up for a while where you can sign up for email updates.

Ahealy inspired me in to checking for updated permit activity, and an actual site plan was recently filed on 09/29 (with dated activity as recent as 10/13). This is not the same filing linked to earlier in this thread from June. But unfortunately there are not yet any attached documents with project details.

Now I'm not saying I'm trying to get you drunk to get you to reveal more details, but are you going to the wine and cheese tasting on October 24?

These cheesy drunken wine events (or was that cheese and wine?) are where rumors get started.

Anywhoo0o0o, Block 24 will be a big project. I can't say anything about the price tag (because I don't know)... but I was just told this week it will be pushing 70 stories....probably end up being 65 or so.

Just saw it on my coffee run. We should make it an impromptu forum meet-up

If it's any taller than 60 stories, it will almost certainly be a new tallest.

I think we do indeed have a new tallest. That site has always had great potential for such a project.

I never bought the idea that it would be only a second tallest while being 50 to 60 floors and supposedly containing office space. If it's closer to 70 floors and has both residential and office, then we could be looking at a very tall building. I'd guess probably in the 800 to 900 foot range.
