At almost 70 stories, the design absolutely needs to be superb.

Not being able to see a rendering makes me want to light myself on fire.

A 30 page attachment dated this past Thursday (11/13) was added to the site plan filing. But damnit, no details other than what we already know.

The plans we have seen indicate the building is 675 feet to the top of the penthouse roof.

675'? What a bummer, if this is for real. That's roughly a 56-story tower. And we thought (were hoping for) a new tallest...one approaching 70 stories. I really hope this is not the case and that those were old plans.

Nonetheless, a new 675' tower would be nice in the skyline. Even though it is 8 feet shorter than The Austonian.

Still bugs me that OKC (845'), Mobile (745'), Atlantic City (710') and New Orleans (697') are all cities smaller than Austin (metro) yet have buildings taller than Austin's tallest. Just behind Austin's Austonian is Tulsa (667'). Omaha (633') and Des Moines (630') are not too far behind that.

I know I shouldn't whine; but, I'd really like to see a 750'-900' building in Austin...and sooner rather than later. And, I was hoping that Block 24 was going to be this building. Maybe there is still a chance?!?

Perhaps the 675' plan is old and they've gone taller since then. I think it's a little too early to start the gloom and doom train when it's just one person with one post (no offense intended, just making a point) who mentioned something.

Just build the damn thing!!.There are a half dozen planned buildings that are nit picked endlessly but , as yet, haven't had one spade turned..
This new council is going to be very unfriendly to any form of growth or development

Here's my question. Where did the 70 stories 800+ tall information even come from? Was it from a credible source or did it just organically blossom out of nowhere due to so much hope and wanting for such a tower to be built (me included) that now it's being tossed around as something confirmed?

As long as its over 600 feet, not some spire crap but a full building roof height over 600 feet, i'll be happy with that. The Austonian is looking pretty lonely up there by itself and wouldn't mind a companion or two. When and if Waller Center get's built as of the latest renderings (please don't release a crappy scaled down version last minute before construction starts), there will be three 600 footers in the skyline rather than one.

I agree that the sooner a proposal of a 700 to 900 foot is announced and actually moves forward to construction, the better because I fear it may be quite awhile as all these other projects are completed lessening the need as well as what Spaceman just now pointed out, our obviously anti-density future council.

If they're planning any office space with this, even if it's only 50 floors in all, I would bet it's more than 675 feet tall. I would be very very surprised if it wasn't.

The only way I could see it being shorter is if they have huge floor plates, which office buildings do like, but residential buildings don't. Companies like large office floors to have all their workers on the same or as few as possible floors. It increases productivity and makes it more time friendly. Residential buildings, however, would rather have smaller floor plates because it means less activity per floor which translates to less noise and traffic and more privacy. Plus, residential buildings like the views, and they can't have as many good views with multiple units crammed onto one floor.

Great info! Do you have any idea when they will make a public announcement? Release a rendering?

Since you seem to have access to the plans; can you provide us a description of the design of the building? Is there a similar building in existence to which we may refer?

Dang, what happened ahealy? You may want to reconsider with whom you source information. Downtown_Austin seems to have the same ones.

In any case...I wish your sources were correct.

Those are large office floor plates! Just over an acre each in size (based on the report filed with the city stating 185,500 SF of office). That is roughly double the "average" size of an office tower floor plate.

Something isn't adding up if the floor sizes for the office component are an acre in size and somehow will be 61 floors??? I'm seriously confused..
