The existing Y will eventually close once the new one is up and running, but we're talking several years out.

Forward movement on the Translink Oak bus barns, it's going to be going to council with an agreement of paying the city ~$700K to cover the planning costs. Looks like the city is using a common tactic but potentially including the Petro-Can, the Jewish centre and perhaps a couple of other properties into the mix. This reduces immediate neighbour opposition and introduces rezoning creepage. Will probably end up creating a separate thread for this project as it's bound to be huge but it's not at that stage yet.

Here is the details of what we know today. I don't expect the heights of Oakridge but more along the lines of midrises.

I should clarify my question, does anyone know what will happen to the current Y after it moves to the new location?

Perhaps, my understanding is it's on city owned land and that it would probably be sold off to the highest bidder by the Property endowment fund but that's only an educated guess.

Prelude is so much nicer than those cheap-looking creaky wood frame condos.

I haven't done a formal tally, but it seems that GBL Architects have landed the majority of Cambie Corridor concrete midrise projects. What gives? Before this, I didn't really think of them as one of the major players. Their earlier proposals on Cambie looked fresh, but more recent proposals feel stale and we haven't even seen the early ones get completed yet.

I'm not sure where this one will be - it's described as being at Cambie & 41st:

Another project at Cambie & 33rd.

You'd think the developer would have created a "gateway" project (like the Port Living one @ Cambie Bridge)
since 33rd at that location is a main entrance to QE Park.

Here, they couldn't even figure out what to do around the curve!!

Part of me celebrates the death of the Hongcouver special on the corner, the other part laments that's it is for something as banal as this.

The Catholic church on the corner has such a cool form, why have we never had an Eccleciastical Architecture thread?!

PS, what corner is the future Canada Line station supposed to be on?

While it is great to see Cambie becoming more urban, part of me is also sad.

Many of the properties along Cambie are actually very well maintained with great landscaping and gardens.

I would be sooooooo much happier if it were instead Marine Way or Main street being redeveloped like this, which are both full of god awful ugly properties with little or no gardening / landscaping.

I wonder if this is because west side properties command higher prices so naturally they want to redevelop those first?

Speaking of Main Street re-dev, was surprised to see Boffo signage at the 33rd area.

My hunch is that the station house would be built on the northeast corner (QE Park). It's public property and the building footprint could be pretty small. Plus the tunnel is under the eastern (northbound) couplet of Cambie Street.

Here's the development application: http://former.vancouver.ca/commsvcs/...mbie/index.htm

Submit you complaints in the online feedback form.

Seriously my heart sank when I realized this was another building by GBL Architects. This is just another one of their uninspiring bland boxes.

The Building Elevation Drawings in the Development Application look a lot more interesting, the materials, glazing and surfaces look fairly innovative.. a curve in a road doesn't always need to be mimicked by the shape of the buildings, that's been done far too often in Metro Vancouver with less than spectacular results.
