Most of Fort Douglas is already apart of the dorms or apart of the university, as you can see by Officer's Circle.

I'm going to live in one this summer again, they are pretty bad ass.

Its also in the Campus Master Plan that eventually all of what is left of Fort Douglas will be student housing.

This photo update is amazing stevena07!

Why so few photo updates from you?!

I'm really jazzed about having the massive scar that was the Hper Mall project finally heal over. I want our school looking its best for our PAC 12 visitors.

As I was walking across campus for a meeting this afternoon I noticed that the base of a new crane has been delivered, which I assume is for the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts and Education Complex which will be built right next to the new business building (directly east). Here is a picture of the new building:

I hope this building turns out better in real life, because this rendering looks like a mess.

I agree. I don't see how it can fit in such a small area. Squished between the new business building and MBH.

New honors building next to Trax. Today, 5/21

HPER Mall

I'm very confused with the final product of the HPER mall, after reading through the master plan and at all forums pre-construction I was under the impression there would be a pedestrian network, bike/longboarder network, & shuttle network. I was also under the impression that there would be bio-swales, & xeriscaping incorporated throughout. Did all of that get scrapped?

I'm also curious how the new design of zig zagging sidewalks and stairwells is an improvement upon the original as the majority of the mall is not beneficial for those with disabilities. I'm amazed the final design was ruled compliant with ADA regulations.

HPER has some of those things, but they're only available certain hours because they're used for classes/sports during the day and even evenings. This is to replace the student workout facilities at the Field House.

I think the intention is for these new facilities to be used by students, whereas the HPER facilities will be used more by Athletics, and for classes as Stenar said.

Does anyone know what a "MAC Gymnasium" is?

I hope this happens soon. I work out at the field house 6x a week, the facilities are so outdated. That building wasn't meant to be a gym. I have my doubts that this will happen soon though. Just last week they put in new fixtures and counters in the locker rooms and updated somethings.

Also, the Tanner dance building is where this would be located, and it would need a new home first. I think it would be in that new Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts and Education Complex. I'm assuming that would have to be completed first? This makes me wonder if the student life center is still years away.

On the other hand, they haven't finished the most upper section of hper yet, so it makes you wonder if they didn't bother because they would have to rip it out for this.

Looks sweet though, I like the new plans better. It looks like they would still connect the bridge to it as well, and that track looks legit.
