Vancouver - Downtown - Central

Vancouver is the 8th largest city in Canada by population (630,000) and is the largest city of the Greater Vancouver Census Metropolitan Area in British Columbia (containing 2,460,000, the 3rd largest in Canada).

Downtown is located on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by Vancouver Harbour, English Bay, and False Creek. I will define Downtown as including the adjacent districts on the peninsula of Central, Coal Harbour, Davie Village, Gastown, West End, and Yaletown.

This thread will focus on the central area of downtown, generally a few blocks away from any of the waterfronts; it will include skylines and streetscapes:

Historic buildings and streetscapes:

Vancouver Art Gallery:

The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver:

Marine Building:

A selection of buildings from the latter half of the 20th century:

Central Branch of Vancouver Public Library:

Modern plazas, streetscapes, and skylines:

Contemporary highrises:

Absolutely beautiful of one of my favorite cities. The architecture is truly a work of art, old and new. For people who think it's all glass boxes, you are totally mistaken. Thank you for this fantastic tour.

I can't believe I've been in the PNW for 3 years and I haven't been there yet.

That art deco beauty reminds me of some of the buildings in Detroit (Guardian, Fisher, etc.)

Thanks for the photos. Really well done.
