Fresno-Chandler Airport's 1936 "Streamline Moderne" Terminal is restored

The City of Fresno is finishing the restoration of the 1936 constructed airline terminal building at Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.

The restoration was done using the original WPA blueprints. The Streamline Moderne building and its architectural details were fully restored.

Today the terminal houses airport offices, a cafe, and services for private pilots. But originally Chandler Airport was the home to Fresno's commercial airline service and the restoration included the original ticket counters.

Commercial flights moved several miles away to FAT (now Fresno Yosemite International Airport) in 1948, and Chandler Airport became an executive airport. That move probably helped ensure the preservation of the original terminal.

The exterior of the Chandler Airport terminal appears in the new movie, "Indiana Jones and The Kingdom Of Crystal Skull". A crew filmed in Fresno for several days using period cars and aircraft. Watch for the Latin American airport terminal scene, I won't say anything about who is in the scenes or what happens.
