Great photos, the Hammer has a solid stock of Victorian and Georgian buildings.

Ah I feel refreshed now, been years since flar did a photo tour of Hamilton.

Thanks! The city keeps looking cleaner and better over the many photo tours.

Funny, whenever I read Steel City I think of Pittsburgh, but obviously Hamilton has MUCH of the same industrial past!

Great shots, flar!

What a treat.

McMaster was one of my final choices a year ago when deciding where to go to school. I think I would have enjoyed myself in Hamilton.

Thank you! This is what I've been waiting for. Flar using his new equipment and new skill in the town he really photographed well before. This was stunning, lots of character in Hamilton I hadn't noticed before.

I've been to Hamilton many years ago but wasn't impressed by the city back then. Your pics are showing me a very pleasant city -far from the one I remember. TY !!

^^It's King William, probably just missing a couple buildings since you last saw it.

I only had a few short hours to do photography, so I didn't get a chance to use my fast primes, but I did get to use the wide angle.

Hamilton does not show itself well to visitors. Much of downtown Hamilton is weak and almost all of the main thoroughfares are lined with empty, decrepit buildings and parking lots (I'm thinking Main, King, Cannon, Barton, Burlington, Wellington, etc). Almost all of the nice things are in places visitors would never find (like Westdale, Locke South, Ottawa St, West Harbour or Dundas).

Incidentally, except for the skyline shots, two pictures from Dundas (24 and 74) and two from Ottawa St. (31 and 32) the rest of this is downtown Hamilton and the neighbourhoods directly surrounding it.

Great grit, great colour.

There's no substitute for this kind of mature urban texture:

Nice pictures. I would've liked to see you do a neighborhood tour like your other great ones, but a photo essay is still good.

You seemed to have come across quite a few "lower class" residents in this one. Seeing a fat White woman wearing a Brazil shirt seems very contradictory.

Hamilton is a working class city.

I wish I had had time for a neighbourhood tour, I hope to make an longer stay there sometime. We were just there overnight to visit some friends.

There were too many photos to load this page so I moved some of the photos from here into Part II. Part II also has about 50 new photos.

Thanks for the replies.
