Think of this building as Great Wall (of Manhattan) dividing highrises and supertalls to the north from lowrises to the south of it. Correct me if I am wrong but there will be very few tall buildings south due to zoning.

The zoning is generally more restrictive the further south you go in this part of Manhattan, but there will still be highrises built south of this building. There's no real zoning difference immediately north of this building as opposed to immediately south.
They should have at least broke up the facade to make it look like multiple buildings, instead of one building stretching an entire block along the street.
Is this a joke? Between the ridiculous proportions, the cheap cladding and the nasty visible A/C vents - this is truly of the ugliest structures that has been built in Manhattan in a really long time.
Who designed this? Whoever did should be embarrassed, stripped of his license and publicly flogged. Horrible!
^ that is the southernmost section of the #7 train subway extension. its not coming down that far yet, but this is/was the launch chamber site for the boring machine equipment.
