This.

The lack of height is the only flaw with this otherwise fantastic building.

And I'm not trying to complain or anything. This building is awesome.

I just wish it were taller, so it wouldn't just be incredible from street level, but also contribute to the skyline.

Isn't there something to be said though, for more human-scale buildings? I enjoy discovering the gems that you find when you turn a certain corner.

And I'm not sure this particular tower would look as good if you stretched it vertically.

Yeah, maybe. But it's already a very big building. I don't see how it's super human-scaled at 500,000 square feet and nearly 500 ft.

This tower is beautifully proportioned and fits in well. Portzamparc's LVMH tower is small, but very nice. He has a way with glass for sure----just look at One 57. He is really a visionary.

Construction Update: 400 Park Avenue South

Facade work has now begun at 400 Park Avenue South, and the first two floors of glass have been installed – the cladding does not disappoint, and is more impressive in-person than in the tower’s renderings. The panes are enormous, and reflect a silvery grey; though the forms are extremely different, the windows of 150 Greenwich are perhaps the closest match among new buildings in Manhattan.

YIMBY reader Les submitted the above photos, which showcase the cladding’s sensitivity to lighting, as its color changes dramatically depending on the sunlight. The all-glass facade will transform the tower into a fractured bundle of enormous mirrors, each with its own personality at any given time. As a whole, the tower continues to evolve into a show-stealing centerpiece for Park Avenue South.

Besides progress on the facade, superstructure work is also moving ahead at full speed, and forms are now up to the tower’s 20th floor. Once complete, 400 Park Avenue South will have a total of 42 floors and rise 476 feet, so construction is already past the halfway point. The building remains below ‘impact’ status on the skyline, but the next few floors will propel the structure above the neighborhood’s mid-rises.

This fits in, yet stands out so perfectly.

I'm just really hoping that totally cool pyramidal subway entrance will make it into the final product. If so, this building will be a 10/10.

If I were still in the same office I was in five years ago I might have a view of at least part of this building from the 27th floor. Worst case, I could have walked to the other end of the floor.

Even if the glass doesn't turn out as well as the renders, the shape of this building alone will make it a gem.

Great shot JellyRoll. This still has at least another 15 stories. I think it will make quite an imprint in that part of the skyline.

According to Curbed, this building's official name is now Sky Couture.

Pretty cool name in my opinion. At least better then just another tower being called by its address.

Looks like Curbed is jumping to conclusions.

"Sky Couture" is just a descriptive headline. Nowhere on the page does it say that's actually the new name. The supporting text refers to the building as 400 Park Ave South many times. Not to mention, the logo for the building is right at the top of the page calling it 400 Park Avenue South.

"400 Park Avenue South is anticipated to open for sale in late 2013"
"400 Park Avenue South will offer a remarkable collection of 1- to 5-bedroom condominium residences"
"400 Park Avenue South will alter the Manhattan skyline"

Woops looks like you're right. Guess I should have followed the actual 400 PAS link as opposed to just reading the article Curbed wrote on it haha.

Regardless I think Toll Brothers should call it that. How many towers going up in the city are going to keep being called by their address? Can't the developers be at least a little more creative?

I was watching some recent photos taken from top of the rock, and I saw that this building is already visible on the horizon. It may not be a tall building, but the design is amazing.
