I doubt I will ever like the office buildings at Three Crossings, but I hate them a little less than I was fearing.

I think they look a lot nicer than I anticipated from some angles. It depends where I'm standing though. And I still think it's going to age poorly.

Better than I thought... and not large enough to be too offensive.

Just looks pretty low-quality to me... which is kinda weird considering that the largest company on the planet will be a tenant.

Also, has the sun ever come out in Pittsburgh this summer?

Yeah, part of what is softening the impact for me is that in context, they sorta look like cheap industrial buildings that got an office conversion makeover. As such they fit in OK with the overall vibe in the Strip.

Of course "relatively inoffensive" is not exactly high praise, but I was afraid these things were going to be discordant eyesores.

We were gone for a couple weeks, and when we came back our gardens had gone crazy (unfortunately the weeds too, but that is not my department--I'm just making pesto).

This will be a good addition to Oakland. Glad that it's taking up a surface lot, and that it will help the PAA stay solvent.

- Concord Hospitality unveiled a proposal before the city planning commission Tuesday to build a 10-story, 168-room Hyatt Centric Hotel in the PAA-owned parking lot behind the club on Fifth Avenue.

- It represents a scaled-down version of an earlier $45 million plan that called for roughly 190 rooms and 199,000 square feet of space, about 26,000 square feet more than what is now being proposed.

- Arriving guests immediately will be whisked to the 10th floor, where they will find the lobby as well as a restaurant and an outdoor terrace. Asked why Concord located the lobby on the top floor, Mr. McGraw replied, “First of all, it’s unique to Pittsburgh. Secondly, we wanted to capitalize on the tremendous views of Oakland.”

- Other amenities include 2,000 square feet of meeting space, a street-level independent restaurant on Bigelow Boulevard and a coffee shop on Lytton Avenue.

- The upscale Hyatt Centric is a newer brand that either has opened or will be opening in Manhattan; Miami; Chicago; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Paris; and London.

I think it's improved since the initial rendering though, no? Seems to fit the Oakland institutional vernacular pretty well.

I don't understand the decision to make the northwest corner different than the rest. Why not continue the crown treatment all around? Without this, I would be pretty pleased with the design.

The set back from the street definitely helps it blend in to the area a little better.

This is my biggest gripe. It really seems like a poor mish-mash of styles. On some parts of the building they tried (barely) to mimic the older architecture. Then, there is some Oxford-level contemporary corner crap slapped on top. Just strikes me as a mess. Pick one and run with it. Also, how about some sort of glass for the parking garage portion?

because architects are so completely bored to death by all of the ridiculous and confusing building codes they have to follow that they try to relieve their boredom with design gimmicks

How does that relate to the weird-ass corner on this building? I am not trying to be snarky or anything, I am curious as to what you mean.
