Thanks for these new pics of Miami, QuantumX, and for the info too!

Now I know where Regalia is. Just one year ago we went to Aventura Mall, so we were very near of this pretty building, weren´t we? We went there by bus, I think we took line 120 from Miami Beach.

By the way, we liked a lot those condo highrises beside South Pointe Park, specially Portofino Tower.

Beautiful pictures, as usual.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Thanks! We'll see what the market will hold this time. A lot of these projects were resurrected from the last decade and were planned before the market crash. Developer interest in Miami is very strong! You can see Regalia from the parking lot of Aventura Mall now just outside of the food court there.

Brickell CityCentre | 262' office, 262' office, 503' condo, 516' hotel, 520' condo, 528' condo, 634' office tower | U/C
Brickell CityCentre is a massive project currently under construction in the space near the river in the photos below the renderings. The developer has purchased more property extending the project all the way to Brickell Avenue in our financial district, so we don't even know yet how much larger this project is going to get. You can see how well it will fit into the south end of the Miami skyline in the aerials I took just recently.

Miami World Center is another massive project going up behind the phalanx of giant condos on Biscayne Blvd. This line of skyscrapers will also include Zasha Hadid's first skyscraper in the western hemisphere, the one in the middle of the line.

Biscayne Beach and Element will fill in all the space along the bay on the north end of the skyline and will give the Miami skyline an incredible spread from north to south along the bay. All these projects include buildings over 500 feet tall.

Then our mixed-use supertall One Bayfront Plaza at 1,010 (our height limit) is scheduled to start construction in 2016. In the first photo below, it will replace the brown building left of center. The same developers want to finish an 851 feet tall condo on Brickell Avenue first. Banco Santander of Spain is still planning to put their 950-feet tall international headquarters on the south end of Brickell Avenue as well. In the second two photos, you can see the building they will replace sandwiched between two skyscrapers on Brickell Avenue (The Four Seasons and Espirito Santo). The building currently under construction in the second photo is 1100 Millicento, a new high-rise condo in Brickell Village.

Several other projects are also in the works. We're not sure yet what Genting out of Malaysia is going to do since the Casino Bill didn't pass, but the last I heard, it will consists of three 649 feet tall luxury condominiums just for starters.

"the destination casino bill will pass next year. "

You didn't need to quote this entire set of pics just to say this.

Quantum great photos my friend!!!I can't understand why San Diego hasn't learned anything from Miami. I mean San Diego is in a great location with the best beaches in Socal, but it's skyline is so boring. I know about the height restriction, but i am talking about being creative and building some nice condos.

Thanks, Nomayoplease! As far as San Diego is concerned, I guess it's all the luck of the draw between what what developers want to develope there, what architects they chose, and what local government will approve. I would talk to someone on the San Diego development thread about that.

We have all sorts of mixed feelings about our new architecture from all over the place. For the most part, I like the Miami skyline as it stands today. Some people say the buildings look too much the same, but I don't see them that way. I see cohesion and a skyline where buildings fit together while having different designs. Some designs other people prefer in other cities I'm glad are not here.

Thanks, Lakelander! Wasn't sure if you had noticed my photo threads before. Too bad the old home town isn't booming like this.

I find many of the buildings beautiful.

But where are all the green public parks in Downtown Miami for people to enjoy?
It seems that every vacant space is for a condo.
They are paving over Bicentennial Park for the new museum, and Bayfront Park is pretty small and overdeveloped. Margaret Pace is also pretty small and not convenient for Brickell residents.

Miami needs a large public park walkable from Downtown.
One either has to drive down to Coconut Grove, or to go all the way to the beach and fight for a parking space to enjoy anything remotely resembling a properly developed public park. Or, go to the suburbs.

So... where are the new public parks in Downtown Miami?
Does Miami even care about public parks?
Are there any planned?

I ate dinner at the Rusty Pelican tonight. I searched to see if anybody posted a thread from there, and your wonderful thread came up.

What a terrific view from there. I come from Pittsburgh where we can take a funicular up to one of the best urban views in the country, but after being on Biscayne Bay this evening I found a love for the Miami skyline. Though people need to chill though driving up I-95. It is worse than NYC or DC!

Thank you! Yes, I always enjoy eating at the Rusty Pelican for that fantastic view. All the photos below were taken from very near there earlier this year at the base of the bridge. It's a very popular vantage point for photographers, and I consider it to be the city's best angle. For people visiting Miami, I always recommend that drive across the Rickenbacker Causeway because of the view. I think anyone who takes that trip who hasn't will see the city in a completely different light.

Beautiful night skyline views of Miami!

Thanks for the info about that place, as you´ve said the best angle to photograph the city, we didn´t know. I write down that address for our next visit to Miami, I hope soon..

Greetings.

Great thread Quantum. I don't think the problem with San Diego is the height limit it is the demand. Who is buying all of these units in Miami? Brazilians and Russians and rich people from the NE Corridor??

San Diego obviously does not have access to those markets like Miami does. And the metro area is roughly 1.8 million people smaller. Hell even LA is not building tons of high rise residential like Miami is.

San Diego would be building a lot more if the demand were there, we could also build high rises along San Diego bay south of downtown and the views would be amazing but those areas are "too ghetto" for rich investor types to want to say they own there...

I just can't believe Miami is still building all of these towers...

Thanks, Mello! You pretty much hit the nail on the head with everything you said. I can't believe we're still building as much as we are myself. Here's the Rickenbacker Causeway. A drive across this bridge on the way to Key Biscayne affords the best view of the city.

Brickell CityCentre | 262' office, 262' office, 503' condo, 516' hotel, 520' condo, 528' condo, 300m+ mixed-use supertall.| U/C
Brickell CityCentre is a massive project currently under construction in the space near the river in the photos below the renderings. The developer has purchased more property extending the project all the way to Brickell Avenue in our financial district, so we don't even know yet how much larger this project is going to get.

We sure as hell know now!

Swire Properties plans an 80-story, mixed-use tower at the 700 Brickell Ave. site it purchased recently for $64 million.

The Arquitectonica-designed high-rise would serve as the entrance to the Brickell CityCentre project currently under construction on both sides of Miami Avenue, immediately west of the 700 Brickell site.

The tower, to be called One Brickell CityCentre, will include retail, Class A offices, condominium units, and a hotel with a restaurant and lounge, according to a statement released Friday. The plan also envisions grand plazas and retail shops connected to Brickell City Centre.

Upon its completion in 2015, Brickell CityCentre will comprise a luxury shopping center, two residential towers, the EAST Miami hotel by Swire Hotels, serviced apartments, a wellness center and Class A offices.

Swire Properties intends to work with the city of Miami to have One Brickell CityCentre approved as an extension of the existing Special Area Plan. The site is currently home to Northern Trust Bank, which had an interest in the sale of the property.

“In creating the vision for One Brickell City Centre, we are mindful of the legacy of the sellers of 700 Brickell Avenue, heirs of the pioneer Brickell family and Northern Trust Bank, a great corporate citizen,” Swire Properties President Stephen Owens said in a statement. “Our goal is to develop a structure that will be artful in its mix of uses and will advance Brickell Avenue’s stature as Miami’s premier destination.”

“One Brickell CityCentre is a tower that, by its design and dramatic contours, creates views above the current Miami skyline,” Arquitectonica principal Bernardo Fort-Brescia said in a statement. “With sightlines that stretch from land to sea, the building’s glow will act as a welcoming lantern for downtown Miami and a portal to Brickell from all approaches.”

Owens told the Business Journal in August that Swire may hold off on developing the site until after the Brickell CityCentre project is complete.

Thanks for the information, QuantumX!

It really looks a very interesting project. I like very much the design of this new tower. I´m sure One Brickell CityCentre will turn into an incon of Miami´s downtown.

Greetings from Madrid, Spain.

From the looks of it Miami doesn't seem to suffer nearly as much from rampant NIMBYsm as the rest of big cities in this country do. Good on Miami!

And this shot is giving me Bangkok Chao Phraya River vibes lol.

One Brickell CityCentre is now one of two seriously planned supertalls we have in the works for Miami. The other is One Bayfront Plaza. The twin towers of Empire World in died in the economic collapse of the last decade.

Many of these projects were approved before the NIMBYs could organize. It was too late before they even had a chance to organize.
