Yes please, I usually just go to the Philadelphia tag page then need to remember there's a transportation thread. It would be great if we could get it tagged so it ends up here:

Talk about some radical ideas for a transportation overhaul! I’d support most of what’s mentioned here.

Anything that can extend, streamline or enhance rail lines always grabs my attention.

It's a sad day: for those railfans on SSP, SEPTA 615 was taken out to pasture in Woodbourne Yard today. Her fate is unknown.

Yep, it's the Alco FA power pack they had been using on the leaf train.

As it turns out, 615 will be going to the Durbin and Greenbriar Railroad in WV. I hope they repower it.

Petition to save the Solari Board in 30th St
Amtrak just announced they're trying to get rid of the solari board in 30th st Station. I don't think any of us wanna see that go.

Can't it just be moved somewhere and "saved", and still have a modern screen replace it? It's not like the choice is save it in place or destroy it and throw it in a dumpster is it?

It's going to the Railroad Museum in Strasburg.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission expects to take ownership of the world-famous Solari board as soon as January 2019. The model, which flips individual panels each time a train’s status is updated, providing that classic “clicking” sound familiar to travelers around the globe, is considered an antique.

An official agreement hasn’t yet been signed, so the transfer date is subject to change. But Howard Pollman, spokesperson for the historical commission, is pretty certain he’ll receive the board in late January or early February.

At that point, the sign will move 60 miles to its new home: The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.

And it’s not a moment too soon, per museum site manager Patrick Morrison. They’ve been negotiating an agreement with Amtrak for more than two years. Morrison is thrilled to acquire what he calls an “electromechanical wonder” and incorporate it into an existing exhibit.

Oh no! 30th Street Station’s famous flipping sign is coming down soon | BillyPenn.com

Will they have the same body styling as the current bi-levels or will they have a more pleasant appearance post-FRA reg reform?

WHEREAS, the cost of the purchase for 113 Multilevel III Vehicles, including other
passenger amenities and spare parts, is $669,072,335, with 14 vehicle options to purchase
up to an additional 636 Multilevel III Vehicles (and an additional 250 Multilevel Vehicles
intended for SEPTA)
, which would be subject to future board authorization and when fully
exercised, would be for a total contract value of $3,612,861,685; and
I thought you were making a suggestion but then I saw that nugget.

I personally really like the look of NJT's bilevels. They're probably going to look similar just probably made to be lighter.
