^ it's actually a lot more complicated than that - Rick Keating of SOM LA was involved but so was Jeff Heller. In the end Heller Manus takes credit for it but SOM is somewhat reluctant. It was one of the first towers to be built under the zoning controls of the 1980s. For the whole story, read Allan Temko's piece on the building in 'No Way To Build a Ballpark."

It's a fascinating read for those interested in architecture or san francisco.

Nice pictures. I'm glad to see the second level of glass coming along.

Anyone know what level they've reached?

A bit more detail on the glass:

That glass is really impressive. One of the better facades I've seen.
It's interesting, how glass facades have become so unique and varied on contemporary skyscrapers. It's almost like experimentation and variation in glass curtain facades is what this decade/era of skyscraper construction will be known for in the future. (think Art Deco, International, Postmodern....?)

That's so funny. I was watching them load a couple of those aluminum pieces (A/C ducting?) at lunch today and wished I had my camera with me to capture some of it. Then presto! Here it is. Thanks!

It's amazing to think that only 4 1/2 months ago in mid June there was no big steel in the pit!

^^^And note what the legend on that photo says about the "beautifully lit crown, unique to the San Francisco area . . . ."

Yeah, a lit crown is part of the building logo.

I'm glad to see this one pregressing fast. It will be interesting how the setbacks further up will be accented by the glass.

I also see One Rincon's crane still on its way down. I almost feel sad since it might be a while before we see another one that high up.

^^^Depending on how you mean "that high up", it won't. 301 Mission is as tall a building and the crane should be as high from the ground, just not on a hill.

It looks like that last photo shows ORH in the background. It's amazing that only 4 1/2 months ago this building hadn't even started rising yet, and now it's already 3/4 of the way up.
