Related Companies’ second and tallest residential tower within the Hudson Yards master plan has emerged above ground. An army of steel columns are poised to soldier skyward, and will soon embark on a 1,009-foot climb, ultimately making it the second highest tower on the superblock.
The tiered and curvaceous design by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill combines the classical skyscraper silhouettes of the city with contemporary modernism. The tower will feature a curtain wall consisting of vertical striations of limestone that yield to increasing amounts of glass wedged in between. The apex of the building will be reminiscent of a glass lantern and its pinwheel shape should become a new staple in the Midtown skyline.

Developers nab $1.2 billion loan for latest Hudson Yards tower

Developers Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group secured a $1.2 billion loan to finance the construction of a 1,000-foot-tall mixed-use tower at Hudson Yards on the far West Side of Manhattan.
Related also raised an undisclosed equity investment from an unidentified entity for the $2 billion, 1.1 million-square-foot skyscraper at 35 Hudson Yards, on the corner of West 33rd Street and 11th Avenue. Children's Investment Fund is providing the debt.
"This capitalization further underscores the appeal of Hudson Yards with both global capital and global companies," said Stephen Ross, Related's chairman and founder, in a statement.
Children's Investment Fund has financed several luxury housing developments across the city, including 30 Park Place and 520 Park Ave.
The London-based hedge fund lender is familiar with the $20 billion Hudson Yards project—it also backed Related and Oxford's 15 Hudson Yards with a $1.3 billion loan last year. Fifteen Hudson Yards, with 285 condos, and 35 Hudson Yards are the first two residential buildings of several that Related and Oxford eventually plan to raise as part of the far West Side development. Presales for both will begin later this year.
The upper half of 35 Hudson Yards, which was designed by architect David Childs of the firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, will house 137 condos. The space below the residences will be largely occupied by the high-end fitness chain Equinox Fitness, which Related owns. The gym is opening a 200-room luxury hotel, a 60,000-square-foot gym and spa, and its new global corporate headquarters at the tower. Fitness chain SoulCycle is also slated to take a portion of the retail space at 35 Hudson Yards, which is scheduled to open in 2019.
The tower, which began rising earlier this year, is the fifth building underway at Hudson Yards. In May, Related and Oxford completed 10 Hudson Yards, a 1.7 million-square-foot office tower anchored by the luxury handbag maker Coach. Right next door, the developers are erecting a 1 million-square-foot mall anchored by a Neiman Marcus department store and a 2.6 million-square-foot tower at 30 Hudson Yards that will serve as the headquarters for Time Warner. Late last year, Related and Oxford secured $5 billion of debt to fund construction of the mall and 30 Hudson Yards.
Additionally, Related has partnered with Japanese development firm Mitsui Fudosan to build 55 Hudson Yards, a 1.3 million-square-foot office tower that is under construction.

I remember a dear friend (RIP) of mine who worked in the Trade Center, told me the 2 Towers (RIP) alone, had their own zip codes.

Yes it is amazing. This tower is a little overshadowed by its neighbors, but once that steel starts getting higher, we'll know its in the big leagues.

The size of some of these new towers is massive! 30 HY and this group are going to look immense. Think back to the renders with 10 HY looking like the small one and think about how big and nice that looks ... until the rest arrive!

Its an epic sight. The modern day Rockefeller Center. And your right, 10 HY is definitely small. Although in person it looks huge, but if the renderings are anything t go by, 30 HY will eat it alive.
